Case for Byfield if you know

Created by: Adamitis
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2020
Published: Aug. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Case for Byfield over Lafreniere:

Byfield is 10 months younger, Lafreniere only a few days away from being eligible last draft
Byfield is a C
Byfield has a bigger frame
Byfield's skating is better
Byfield plays in a stronger league
Byfield's WJC this year is about even with Lafreniere's last season at the same age
Higher Ceiling

Would you rather have a potential Huberdeau/Kane with a floor of Saad in Lafreniere, or a potential Malkin/Lindros in Byfield, with a floor of Eric Staal.

Negative: Byfield probably goes back to the OHL for one more season.

There is also a case for Malkin over Ovechkin but that was never going to happen. You 100% take Lafreniere

Yes: not saying I would do it, but there is certainly an argument to be made (and a better one than putting Stutzle at 2)

Fair enough. Maybe so but, I don't know if anyone thought Malkin had higher ceiling at that time, just that he was a C made people question.

Ya Stutzle at 2 is insane. Honestly I don't even know if he should go #3

Ye, I have him at 4, but him Raymond (3) and Rossi (5) are just so close, i could see a reasonable argument for them in any order

Yep, he is 5 for me behind those two. Byfield, Lafreniere, Rossi, Raymond, Stutzle

Nobody show this to Rob Blake, I need Byfield to fall to Ottawa.

The Sens are going to be a team everyone hates to play in a few years, especially if they get Byfield. They're going to be big, skilled and hard to play against.

Ya even without. Great young group up front. Always high on Norris and they have some solid D prospects to add to Chabot.
Don't like any of their Goaile prospects tho...Askarov?

If he falls to 22nd sure, but I'm not a fan of trading up at the draft, and there's no effing chance I'm going goalie with a top 5 pick lol.

Also don't sleep on Daccord. He's a really smart goalie, and he just had a great rookie season. Also barring one really brutal game he shouldn't have had to play, Hogberg was fantastic for Ottawa as a rookie, considering how bad the team was . If he can take an expanded role next year and build on that success, there might be something there as a starter, though I think he's likely more of a backup. Also Ottawa traded up to get Sogaard last year so the team must have some confidence in him.

They don't have any sure thing goalie prospects, but they have a bunch of guys with promise. Maybe with one of their many mid round picks they take a chance on a guy like Joel Blomqvist who had some great numbers, and could stay in Europe for a few years, but I'm not sure they are the team that needs Askarov

Me personally, I like the Byfield option. Here's my what if: Pens get lucky, get the 1st overall pick. Trade #1 pick, Jack Johnson to Kings for #2 overall pick. Kings take Lafrienere. Pens draft Byfield as center of future. Byfield spends this year in Junior. Who knows what next hockey season even looks like with all of covid going on. 2021 Byfield is starting 3rd line center.

I love Byfield honestly so if PIT wins #1 I would be 100% open to trading down to #2/#3 with LAK or OTT and getting him + assets.
