Firing him is a huge mistake in my opinion. Leafs are a strong team I know the qualifier is a tough pill to swallow I’m an oilers fan in the same boat. He’s drafted very well built a fairly deep team worst contracts are at least to some amazing players. The flat cap hit everyone by surprise. He’s done well enough thus far to be given an opportunity to make needed adjustments.
I think you have to give Dubas one more season, but the team needs to get out of the first round, maybe even a ECF appearance for him to be safe. Looking over the trades since he's been the GM, they haven't been great. Not terrible, mostly just meh deals. The signings of his high profile players is well documented and I think its telling when in an Agent Poll you're rated as the most generous GM lol. He's got to do something this off-season though and he needs to move out one of these big contracts to get some support on the backend. As a Bruins fan, I'll continue to not be concerned with TOR until they bring in some DFD's that can play a heavy/mean game.
Maybe I'm wrong, but Dubas seems to be all about skill, skill, skill and that's great for the regular season, but in the playoffs its just not going to work.

Boston is a perfect example of what a team needs to win a cup. Talent, grit, goaltending and defense. Toronto only has talent. Lots of it. The isles don’t have talent.
dubas isn't getting fired, no matter how much the chuds complain
a lot of the run-of-the-mill hockey types don't like dubas because a) he's young, b) he's a nerd and c) he didn't play professionally. hockey fans love to believe they know better than everyone in a teams management, and the fact that dubas isn't the archetypical hockey executive adds onto that. there's also a lot of elitism among former players (not just pro players) that if you didn't play the sport you have no business being in it. hockey is an incredibly expensive sport and requires a lot of time, energy and resources to participate in, and i think a lot of people don't realize that dubas had to stop playing at 14 due to concussions. pro experience does help with management and understanding certain philosophies, but it's not the only way to understand the game. how many former nhl players have failed at being executives in this business?
he's still young and i don't think every move he's made was a stroke of pure genius, but the team he's put together still has a lot of potential. firing him because the season went off the rails is a knee jerk decision.

I mean I think BOS has a solid blueprint, but we've also been fortunate enough where our star players are on really good contracts, allowing us to build a deeper team (although our middle-6 is still a unknown it seems like). You look at Boston's "big-4" of Marchand, Bergeron, Pastrnak and Krejci, they combined for just shy of $27 million. The Leafs big-4 of Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander account for just shy of $40.5 million. Imagine what TOR could do with roughly $13 million in cap space to sure up the backend.
Toronto to me has a 4yr window to win a cup. After year 4 you'll have Matthews and Nylander as UFA's and the following year JT and Marner are UFA's. Unless TOR throws big money (again) at Matthews, I think he leaves as does Marner.
You mean the same defense that just beat the leafs in the play in round?
Lou had nothing to do with that team - Jones and Werenski together are beastly one goes down though and all of the sudden the Leafs pump 4 goals - I have never once said this Leafs team is perfect or that they are not flawed in any way - I do love how the trolls came out of the woodwork to chastise Dubus with his signings and continued to have some perfection expectation of this current squad - Dubus has f'd up with the big pay days before any sort of results - I do not believe it's a firable offence or that Dubus should be fired - he should be given a couple more seasons to clean up his own little mess and right the ship to quote Mike Babcock
Awesome questions that speak to the essence of leaf fans inability to speak out against their fearless "leaders".
Dubas should NEVER have been chosen to replace Lou!
Babcock should NEVER have been fired!
Sooooo glad Dubas is their "man" & rookie coach over Babs..-~
