That is a long time to have 2 mill of dead cap on your payroll, but maybe it's the best option? problem is if you do trade him and he retires there is a recapture penalty for the preds that is ugly too. Plus you wont get much back in a trade...,most likely a bad contract that's less money and term but the preds may need to kick in a pick or prospect.
Too bad about Turris...the guy was really good for the Sens and Team Canada

You should buyout Ryan Johanson's awful contract too. Neither one is looking any good

Johansen was great during the qualifiers - the JoFA line came to play. The other players didn't.

He's had one bad year where everyone on the team played below expectations. I'll see what he does next year.

Honestly, I think it's the best move. You get $4 million in relief for the next four seasons - just in time for when the cap will probably start to go up again. Plus, who knows where they'll be in four years. That $2 mil could barely be a factor at that point.

I still think the best way to deal with a bad contract is to trade it for another bad contract, a la Lucic for Neal. Trade has been great for both teams so far. Everyone's got a problem contract. Gotta search out one tied to a player that could help you and bam, lemonade from lemons

I'm just curious as to what the heck happened with Johansen, Turris and Duchene. They were all bad offensively this year (Turris has been for the past two years), which makes zero sense to me.

Is it bad coaching? Bad system? Bad attitudes? Bad luck? Very curious...

Im not too sure, I dont watch too many Preds games, but Duchene has played great defensively while Turris and Johanson have sucked on both ends of the ice

I kinda wonder if there’s another swing at it for another season as is and possibly try to saddle Seattle with some tough contracts for some picks or prospects. And watch them have big years in Seattle lol. Kinda along the lines of Florida players to Vegas

or you could give the Senators a 1st-2021 for them to take his contract... in return the preds would get H. Labrie (LHD)

I'm not willing to pay a 1st round pick to move his contract. The prospect pool is kinda weak. He's not a complete cap dump, but his contract doesn't allow the preds to fill out the middle 6 wings the way they need to right now. He's had two bad years and didn't fit Lavy's system, but still capable of 40-50 points.

i think the way nashville runs their offence is a very defensively structured system sure players will score 60-70 points a season but that will be their cap as the preds want a team structured and defensive minded team

what about Nino and Dzingel to Nashville for Turris at 33% retain? You get 10.625 million in cap hit the first year, 7.25 the 2nd, 2 and then 2; instead of 2 x 8 or 6 x 4. Canes get 16 million in cap hit over 4 years. To make the numbers looks better you flip Dzingel for a 3rd somewhere.

It cuts the time his contract is lingering by 4 years. If you flip Dzingel this season you are looking at 18.5 million in cap hit and if you flip Nino the next or pay to have him picked by Seattle, your cap hit is 11.25. You could eat half of his salary the 2nd year and only have a cap hit of 14 million. Paying more up front to get rid of it over the long term.

Its a crazy thought. I wont be upset if you say Im dumb and say no.

That is a very interesting Turris trade and one that I would definitely consider. Dzingle played well with Duchene and you may even have a new 2nd line there with Nino - Duchene - Dzingle or flip Dzingle and see if Nino/Duchene + another top 6 forward (maybe draft Laf if NSH is lucky) and then you have a good line there too. Definitely a more interesting trade than the thousands of Turris 50% retained + 1st + 2nd ++ for a 7th -- so nice idea!

I would put Turris with on the left side of either the top or 2nd line. Let him get his TOI back up to 18 minutes /gm and see if we can get his value back up. Then go from there. He'll either turn into another Dzingle, be a solid 2nd liner on a decent contract, or get back to his 50+ days and be on a great contract. I think we would have a hard time moving Nino this season. Not that it is a requirement but we have plenty of defensively responsible forwards. We need guys that can score, regularly.

I guess I just don't understand going after all of these high profile centers over the years (Johansen, Duchene, Turris, Backlund), and then limiting their opportunities to create offence. They could have been running out there with a bunch of Bonino's down the middle and still be in the same shape tears of joy
