Description
Really just looking at expiring contracts and what the flames have to work with for next year. Not sure what the cap situation is going to be either. The Pens trade is something I saw in another ACGM. I also think I'm being optimistic with salaries with Gus, Murray (really have no idea about him and what he's looking for), and Mangiapane.

Yes from pens. As a penguin fan I don't even value Murray that much .

I'd say you're about $1.5M shy on Murray (at minimum) and at least the 3rd round pick over. Pretty close with Mangiapane and Gustafsson.

I can't even begin to explain how much more beneficial to the Flames it would be to have Phillips over Rinaldo in their roster on a nightly basis. Rinaldo is a dead breed and should genuinely consider employment in Europe. Phillips would be at worst the heartbeat of the Flames' #2 power play unit. Best case scenario is that sheltered minutes turns him into a 5v5 production machine out of nowhere similar to Jooris.

Assuming three scratches at no more than $850k each and the extra buck and a half to Murray, the Flames are bang-up against the salary cap with no proper #2C and three right-hand shots throughout their forward core (assumes Phillips). Is there value to be had in this team turning the pair of Bennett and Mangiapane into - at minimum - two right-hand shot forwards? Say, a Kapanen and Jarnkrok? I don't think the cap exists without trading Gaudreau to address the gaping hole at #2C, but if Calgary could acquire some half-assed right wings, pushing Lindholm back to pivot is at least feasible.

Yeah, it became quickly apparent that we're very tight on cap space however things shake out in the fall.

Phillips is a good note, I forgot about the season he had in Stockton. Mostly I was just quickly filling those last few spots.

I'm keen to hang on to Mangiapane given how steady his development has been and chemistry with Backs and Chucky but I agree that Bennett might have value elsewhere? Kapanen and Jarnkrok are players I wouldn't say 'no' to in a trade but it would really come down to what they'd cost; I've seen some absurd prices for Kapanen here :P

I don't see why a straight-across Mangiapane-for-Kapanen deal doesn't work for both sides outside of the salary snag for Toronto. He'd be a quality piece to add to Toronto's top six in lieu of a Hyman or Mikheyev.
