Hall and Lafreniere

Created by: Swisspred
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2020
Published: Aug. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yeah absolutely not gonna happen, but one can dream :P

Hall seems to like Hynes, on the slim chance NSH wins the lottery, NSH might be an interesting option. With Covid the offered salary from contenders might be lower.

Edmundson gives stability to the 3rd D pairing, with offense from some of the youngsters such as Tolvanen, Pitlick, Carrier, Trenin, this might be a pretty cool team :)

If NSH gets Laf, then I don't want to give that much money and term to Hall -- I'd be happy to pick up a guy like Hoffman for less term and AAV. Or even try Jarnkrok or Tolvanen in that spot and keep the cap space. Maybe even a D trade for a top 6 RW (Marner/Nylander/etc.)

With so many changes I thought "at least give them stability of the 1 proven line"

But Forsberg to RW could be an option as well smile

Lmao you aren't getting the 33rd overall pick for Turris, doesn't matter how much you retain.

I was surprised by this, too. I would assume Turris might, and I mean best case, gets a third. Even then, the conversation has to include retention. The term and cap hit alone would probably mean most if not all teams pass on him. Face it: I think Nashville is stuck with him.

I see that point, i think Hofmann could get 6m as well, regarding term, Hofmann is 2y older than Hall, so a shorter contract gets them to similar age. i am not sure Tolvanen or Jarnkrok can fill out that spot, but maybe it is not necessary.

In terms of trading a D - which one would you trade? It destabilizes the Preds D even further. If they trade Ellis maybe a more defensive responsible D to pair Josi with is required. If you trade Ekholm, you need another Ekholm to fill that gap. Unfortunately a prospect wont be enough for Nylander (though they might want to shake up their roster).

Appreciate your input!

I proposed a Turris at $1.5m retained + 2020 2nd for Colin Miller -- and BUF fans seemed to that they'd prefer the deal if it were Ristolainen or Montour, but that they would ultimately accept that deal.

Habs decline, they have enough 3rd et 4th liners in the system, they won't give a pick to get another

I would prefer to trade Ekholm considering his age and need for a new contract soon, as well as positional depth with Davies and Farrance. But I'd be open to trading Ellis if Nashville could get another RHD in a different deal. Yeah did not think about that their 2nd is basically a 1st. Trade value is probably more late 2nd -3rd round pick with retained salary

A proven (in their organization) Center with 40-50 point potential @ 4.8m see what Pageau, Trocheck, Athanasiou got (though less term on lower cap hit)
Maybe it is more in the ballpark of Eakins

Don't get me wrong, I love Kyle Turris, and he's easily in my all time top 10 favorite players, but he's firmly in decline and that deal makes no sense for where Ottawa is in the rebuild.

Sorry did not know that. I was just trying to get rid of Watson and thought Montreal loves some plugs grin
Think of Montreal as any placeholder team that is interested

Good point, then probably try to steal one of Torontos forwards with Ekholm.

One of the Sabres D woumd be a good option, though id rather have an LD for the short term, one might not choose the return on Turris.

No problems! There are already Lehkonen, Poehling, Evans, Byron, Weise, Hudon, Belzile that can play in the bottom 6 wings and center is already stacked on every lines with Danault, Suzuki, KK and Domi.

I just don't see them spending a pick for that Sticking Out Tongue

He's 31, and firmly in decline, there's no way Ottawa should be giving up any assets to acquire him, regardless of retention. The Sens are flush with C prospects and are guaranteed to be drafting at least one blue chip C Prospect. There's just no way it makes sense to add a 31 year old C who has 4 more years on his deal. He would definitely be a useful contributor in the lineup next year, and maybe the year after, but there's just no way he's a guy who should be on the team beyond that.

Probably. But Lucic retained with a pick thrown in got Edmonton James Neal, who scored 20 goals for them this year, Nashville could conceivably do something similar. They certainly aren't simply wiping three-quarters of the Turris cap hit off the books AND getting a high pick back though, that's for sure.

Turris is moveable but it'll be a like-for-like swap.

Preds are my second favourite team so I'm hoping if there is any justice in the land of hockey, the Pens, leafs, Rangers, oilers, Bhawks won't get the 1st overall lol.

If they get Laff I will be ecstatic. I don't think there would be a need for Hall if that happens. And I would love them to move Johansen. I think theyre married to Duchene sadly (as he's not the most liked around the league) so if any shake up down the middle comes, its with Johansen. Maybe take advantage of another team looking to shake things up too. But Poile has been on the wrong side of trades for the last 3 years and I'm tired of it. It's time to start making bold moves with Josi, Ellis, Forsberg, Arvidsson, Duchene in their primes.
The other hot take I have is, I don't think Jaros is the answer sadly. I love his attitude but I see the same things every playoff. I know he's a small goalie, and that's ok BUT, when he plays like a small goalie, ie lots of movement and over aggressiveness, he looks not ready for the pressure. So I think if they could target Jarry from Pittsburgh, that would be a smart move... Not Murray though lol. Sorry Murray

Also Turris isn't happening lol. Love him, but don't need him and he doesn't want to be in Ottawa.

If NSH gets Lafreniere, then it should be Turris + 2021 1st (top 10 protected) for Tierney

Why would Ottawa give up a second rounder to get Turris. They should receive assets
