In my opinion that might be the closest marner trade seen today.

Doesn't work for the Preds. We don't have the depth on the blueline to spare the guys we have. It's like Edmonton's offense - great top-end, but nobody after them.

They can always sign free agents as a second option

"Can" != "will". Or "want to", for that matter - both Ellis and Arvidsson are on really really nice deals for what they deliver.

There's no reason for the Preds to trade them. I know of no need that is so great for the Predators that it would justify losing Arvidsson or Ellis, let alone both together. Arvidsson is too important to the offense, and Ellis is the only non-rookie RHD we have. It is not a viable path to pursue.
