Absolutely. Domi seems headstrong on just wanting to play C, which is fair because he's better at Center than on Wing, but the organization has made up their mind that he isn't above Suzuki, KK, and Danault. So seeing Domi in trades on here only makes sense, that doesn't mean Domi's value has fallen off a cliff though. Think back to when Pacioretty was on the trade block, there was probably, and annoyingly to every fan base, over 50 Pacioretty deals on here every day. and I distinctly remember many people saying Patches wouldn't get a good return because everyone knew he was going to be traded.... well look what he ended up getting (Suzuki, Tatar, and a 2nd). Now I'm not saying Domi is near that value, but just because you see him in almost every Habs trade, doesn't mean his value has tanked.
Going back to the initial question though. Apart from saying Mantha will be expensive, what kind of return would DET be looking for if he were to be moved?
So your key piece in return for Mantha is a player that has the potential to be as talented, if not more-so. From the Habs that's likely Caufield. If we assume that OP's trades execute, it has to start with Montreal's 1st, which holds less value. We would need a stop-gap roster player, Byron is probably the best option, but from a value perspective he does very little. That is the foundation. From there we need to adjust value. Caufield/1st aren't a sure thing, while Mantha is, so we would need another prospect with some potential.
If Caufield, add a slightly lower tier prospect like Cayden Primeau and a mid pick (2nd or 3rd) or two to meet value.
If its the 1st, you're probably looking at a player further forward in their development curve like Kotkaniemi with again a mid round pick or two.
Is this value fair for Montreal, no? Of course not, its an overpayment. But thats about what it would need to get the best player on Detroit, with some elite skills, who is still young.
