Kinda hard to go backwards here.
Although Kerfoot wasn’t outstanding, I wouldn’t say Spezza as 3C would be an upgrade.

Who knows. If this deal doesn’t happen, I’m confident that TOR would have made another deal for another D and then Leafs fans would have just complained about that instead. There’s no chance TOR would have entered the playoffs with that D lineup. They 100% would have acquired someone, Barrie or otherwise, to finish that roster

Colorado fans tried to tell TML fans about Barrie and Kerfoot's respective shortcomings last summer, but all the noise then was that Toronto won the trade and that Kerfoot was a Selke level 3C. It only took 12 months but at least Leafs finally see what we were talking about back then.

It's also quite humorous that we got an upgrade from 6th to 3rd in the upcoming draft, that's now also gone up in value (from ~81st to 75th). Hope we draft a stud with that 75th pick and turn this trade into the gift that keeps on giving...

Since the round robin started he's playing on the 2nd line with Landeskog and Nichuskin which is very much being utilised as a heavy shutdown line, and doing an incredibly good job of it too. He's been a bit 'meh' offensively, but did pop up with timely contributions with the GWG with 0.1 seconds left against St Louis, and also got an assist when he hit the bar in the last minute against Vegas before Compher potted the rebound. If he can continue to provide stellar shutdown play and pop up with timely clutch goals/assists that'll do us really nicely these playoffs.

In terms of physicality he hasn't really been bringing it much, but that can be said of the whole team and I would expect things to ramp up a notch or two when the playoffs properly start tomorrow.
