I don't like it. Nylander and Andersen are not the guys who should be traded. Start with Marner.

Freddie actually played very good for most of it. Hard to win games if you don't score. Especially when you have a 10.8m winger with no goals

Murray, McCann for Andersen

Pittsburgh has no interest in a $5M backup for Jarry.
Pittsburgh has no interest in trading two younger guys for someone that will be 31 when the next season starts.

Freddie they want to be the guy but he's not. Can;t giv eup weak golas every year in the playoffs like he does.
Marner is ten times the player Nylander is.

Andersen let in 2 questionable goals in the series game 1 and game 5. He is not without blame

Marner is not twice the player Nylander is, Nylander may be better by the end of things.

Marner is overpayed. did not do anything in the playoffs in two years. He would be ok to keep if his contract would be at 8.5, but not 10.8m. I have seen way too many games where he did not show up 5vs5

of course he has to take part of the blame too. it is a team game, but I think there were many players who played poor too. In the end, the big 3 line did not do much together.

And having a starter who can handle the toronto media is not easy. Freddie is the first solid goalie since Cujo. A lot of talented goalies failed miserably in Toronto.

The big three got stopped by a hit goalie. The depth was a non factor and Freddie was outplayed. That is the difference.

You actually think Nylander could be better than Marner??????
That might be the craziest thing I've seen on this.

Yes he is overpaid, but they have a lot of guys like that. With the cap being level now hurts them and makes that 10.8 worse.
He is a very good player though still. Young guy that puts up 90 plus ponts seasons.

Marner has scored more points but Nylander has more tools. And he proved this season he has a lot more to give. Marner can't play centre and i question his priorities. Seems to want to be a superstar more than he wants to win. Nylander wants to be great and is just so relaxed that he comes across like he doesn't care about anything. He's better along the boards, is faster, shoots better and is still a terrific play maker. They are way closer than anyone gives Nylander credit for.

Marner is still a much better playmaker and is far more defensively responsible. I have 0 doubt he will be a 100 pt player someday soon

Babcock or Keefe can't put Nylander out with 5 minutes left in the game becasue he is such a liability defensivly. Thats NHL coaches. Nylander certainly comes across as someone doesn;t care, as he did sit out half a season for money. So not sure on how much he wants it more than Marner.
Nylander can take drasw but can;t play centyre as that showed in game 5. He's lost out there and turns the puck over so much
Listen to any NHL anyalst or GM, Nylander is the guy that needs to go.

OK. what did he do? Did he look like the best winger in hockey? He is the highest winger in the league and scored 0 goals, 4 assists with plenty of ice time and plenty of powerplay time. Also, his 5vs5 game was just not impressive.

Ya I guess so. They just have a lot of the same small forwards.
No Role type, big mean players. So I look at it as Johnsson and Kerfoot being paid to much but they aren't.

He was the Leafs best play driver throughout the series (possession analytics)

He also had more expected goals then Auston Matthews

But even using the eye test he clearly controlled play whenever the puck was on his stick. He was creating opportunities left and right.

Who cares about 100 points? individual trophies mean nothing. I don't see him being responsible defensivly, he actually created a lot of turnovers by always trying to find the most elegant solution with a nice pass or so.

He only had 4 giveaways the entire series and was one of our only players who could enter the zone more often then not. Every single analytic points to him being good defensively, mostly because he has good positioning and is a good skater.

I have seen him having 0 goals. Did he really look good to you? I don't know, I felt a lot of his passes were not where they should have been and his shots were just not dangerous. The Leafs had the puck a lot, but the Blue Jackets controlled him actually well and only allowed him to be in areas that were not dangerous.

He also had 38 shot attempts over 5 games, of which 15 required a save. It is a little crazy that Korpi stopped every single shot, but that's just how well he was playing.

Marner usually shoots at about 10% so it's not like his shot is awful either.

Sometimes those stats don't show the real story. The Atkinson goal that Freddie did not look great was for example his fault. The Ds were tired and were in need for a change. instead of playing the puck below the goal line he tried at fancy deflection that did not go below the facoff dots and the Ds got caought.

The Leafs were actually getting a lot of opportunities from the slot, but the shooters couldn't convert. Marner created far more high danger opportunities then Nylander.

Ya there were some less then great passes but he did only miss 4 of them over almost 125 min on the ice.

Did you see those shots? A lot of them were just not dangerous at all. And he does not a very good shot bringing shots trough. A lot of his shots are getting blocked (same during the regular season)
