NYR with trade for Barkov

Created by: Dizz30
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2020
Published: Aug. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Zibanejad is the Rangers' #1 center and probable captain, but they feel they need another high-end center in addition (ideally a player with size).

Barkov fits: Florida doesn't appear to have good forward depth and just fired their GM. Barkov has only 2 years left on his contract and may want to move on from Florida. Trade options aside from Barkov (good centers on bad teams) might include Eichel and Kopitar. But Buffalo will demand the #1 pick (i.e. Lafreniere) or other prospects NYR won't trade (Kakko, Kravtsov, Miller, etc) for Eichel. Kopitar is 32 and has an ugly contract. That leaves Barkov.

Strome is terrible on faceoffs but plays well with Panarin. He was a bust before he joined NYR. This points towards him staying and maybe moving to the wing.

I don't think the Rangers' cap will be an issue. They can trade or buy out Lundqvist and Brendan Smith, or Lundqvist may just retire.

Easy no for FLA.

If you want a TOP10 C in the league under great contract, you must make a much, much better offer than that.

DeAngelo MUST be involved. Can’t keep paying dmen. I still think Florida would say no if TDA was involved. Chytil isn’t elite. Barkov is

While being dirt cheap at that. For FLA it doesn't matter in the slightest.

For example. Coleman had one and a half years left and TB had to pay two firsts for him. And he's a mid-6 player.

But not enough in terms of value.

In general franchise players won't be traded for spare parts. If they're rebuilding, they want elite prospects/assets in exchange.

Quantity for quality never works in these sort of moves.

Only actually valuable assets for FLA as a team here are Buch, Chytil and that 1st. All other pieces are just add ons that do pretty much nothing for them.

Swap Carolinas first with the first overall.

Without the first overall it doesn’t happen.

With Ekblad, Weegar, Strålman and Brown there they don't need Deangelo in the slightest...

They need him even less if they start and actual rebuilding - in which direction moving Barkov would drive them to.

Unless it's Matthews or Eichel it seems, then it's just a bunch of **** and he's yours. Capfriendly right?

Try looking up Pittsburgh's trade of Jagr to the Capitals or when Pittsburgh traded Kovalev to the Rangers. Apparently NHL GM's don't understand "quality over quantity" either...

Stralman is old, brown is unproven, weegar plays on the left side

Strålman's still better defensively, which is something that FLA needs. Weegar's still right handed, it's not a bad thing if he can play either sides. And tbh acquiring Deangelo only to replace Brown seems like a huge waste.

Tbh quite often those two get also pretty bad offers.

The actual trade value of franchise players isn't truly understood by many in here...
