COL Fans - Small Tweak for Game 2

Created by: McRanteskog
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2020
Published: Aug. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Burakovsky up to 1LW, Namestnikov down to 3LW.

Last two games I feel that Burakovsky is being held back by his linemates and Namestnikov has been a step behind MacKinnon and Rantanen.

Donskoi has been sloppy.
I also wouldn’t hate to see Jost fill in for Nieto game 2

Commit to team defence.
Stay out of the penalty box.
Sacrifice the body to block shots.
Be responsible and not turn the puck over.
Don’t be afraid to battle down low in the dirty areas for the puck.

Nieto seems lost every time the puck is on his stick in the offensive zone

Have you taken a look actually at their roster, when Carl soderberg is getting pp1 time, you’re in for a bad time

Schmaltz is hurt and didn’t play.
Kessel and Keller were threats today.
OEL had a steady defensive game.
Hall, Dvorak, Garland, Chychrin and Hayton were ghosts today

Colorado get a lot of hype for being good offensively, but a lot of people overlook the fact that they're also 6th in goals against in the league. They're 1st in the league (by a mile) in chances created off the rush, but also impressively top 3 in limiting chances conceded against on the rush. The team attacks at speed, but also has an ingrained commitment to backchecking just as fast. We have a lot of forwards who are excellent backcheckers (eg. Nichuskin, Donskoi, Laneskog, Namestnikov, Calvert, etc), and even our star players like Mackinnon and Rantanen have been backchecking really well since the round robin began.

We also played a very disciplined game with only 2 penalties against, one of which was really soft (Cole for "roughing").

It also helped that Arizona played turtle hockey for the whole game, and due to the score being tied 0-0 for so long they probably never felt the need to open things up.

Hayton has been a healthy scratch lately. Schmaltz has been injured.

Personally I'd ditch the shutdown line of Landeskog - Kadri - Nichuskin. It's an overkill and a waste of talent to have them playing shutdown hockey against a team that doesn't want to attack anyways.

I'd put Landeskog back on the 1st line and bump Burakovsky up to the 2nd.

Landeskog ---- Mackinnon ---- Rantanen
Nichuskin -------- Kadri ---------- Burakovsky
Namestnikov - Compher ------ Donskoi
Nieto ------------ Bellemare ----- Calvert

That 4th line was extremely impressive, especially in the 1st period where they created the 3 best chances. Arizona often threw on the Hall line when our 4th line was on the ice, but the 4th line handled it very well. I'd keep them together for now until they give you a reason to shake things up.

I agree that the shut down line is over kill for the level of offensive threat that ARI has show so far.

The point of my post, move Bura up, Namestnikov down

I agree with that. Namestnikov was pretty anonymous in Game 1, apart from on the PK where he did well.

Burakovsky did well in creating some great chances for his linemates. I do wonder though if he'd be better off just staying on that 3rd line though. He seems to be thriving as the line-driver rather than being a complimentary piece on a scoring line.
