There’s no Domi vs Brodin trade if Brodin doesn’t come with an extension

Most overrated player on CapFriendly.....Jonas Brodin

Don't get me wrong, Brodin is a great 2nd pairing defensive Dman. but on here you'd think he's an all-star. Stay away from him.

Anthony DeAngelo***

And after watching the MIN qualfiyer, Brodin was without a doubt their best defenseman. He legitimately is a top pair defenseman on most every team.

DeAngelo is up there too lol.

I watched 2 of Minnies games during the qualifiers. For me Spurgeon looked by far their best guy. Ever since the "MTL are after Brodin" rumors, I've been trying to watch his games, and everytime I watch him I see the same thing. A top of the line shutdown defenseman, but contributes little offensively (not nothing, but not what you'd want from a top pairing guy). There's value to guys like that, but now we're seeing people put him in top 20 dmen in the entire league threads.....it's getting ridiculous lol

Well, that's more an issue of what you see more important in a defenseman than his actual value. The offensive guys get all the love, but Carlson for instance is crap defensively.

Obviously as a Canuck fan I was pretty critical of both teams in what I watched, and Brodin was by far the hardest to play against. And at that he got 30 points in the regular season despite his specialty being the back end. It's not like Domi's value is anything crazy either - I don't think I'm boosting his value by anything large here at all. He's a darn good defenseman.

He's 100% a top 20 guy defensively. Overall, I don't think he is quite there, but top 50 certainly.

Oh I think Domi for Brodin, or something along those lines, is a fair deal. I'm not trying to pump up Domi here. I just don't think Brodin is the kind of Dman Habs need to pursue. They already have the stay-at-home solid defensively Dmen in their top 4 (Chiarot, Weber), they need a Dman that can run a PP, and play top pairing, and Brodin is neither. That's why I'm opposed to moving Domi for him.

As for what I find more important in a defenseman. You need a balance, and Habs need a Carlson type player a million times more than they do a Brodin type player. If they want to trade Domi to MIN, move him for Dumba. RD be damned. Habs need offense, and a career high year at 28pts from Brodin doesn't fix that.

I agree with this. but that's my main point. Habs need offense.

I'd start up front. Flyers are my other team so I'll be analyzing this more, but so far the habs are running 3 2nd lines, they lack that elite scoring talent. I think their defense just needs an anchor on the left side.

I don’t really understand the hornqvist trade he didn’t do anything in the play in and is old and overpaid. I’d rather keep Byron who provides an element of speed to the team and is a goo penalty killer than some old overpaid winger who’d be a liability to our third or fourth line.

For how much I like Brodin, I still think that trade is an overpayment by Montreal. People have said Domi for Brodin is an overpayment for Montreal, and now we have to add a very solid top 4 Dman who’s on a bargain contract plus a third rounder? I’m not impressed with Donato either, he wouldn’t crack our top 6. So we’re giving up a sure second line Center, a top 4 defencemen, and a third round pick for a better top 4 defencemen who’s slot right into where Kulak was playing cause Chiarot and Weber have been amazing together, and some third or fourth line forward, no thanks.
