Description
Not this exactly, but the idea is to get 3 new right handed defenseman using the third line and dermott as trade bait. This is probably the best way to reshape the team without losing the core 4 forwards. These trades aren't exact, but something along these lines

Assuming you're a Leafs fan, you probably don't want Howden for Dermott

Im not. But apparently dermott is overrated and is an option for trading. Especially with the left side being okay and the right side needing to be adressed

it seems like a good hockey trade if kerfoot gets flipped for a RHD

You could probably pull off a bigger trade with Edmonton if you add Kerfoot, since they need depth in a bad way.

No lehtonen, no Barabanov. BRACCO?! Dermott isn’t overrated and still has a lot to give. He’s still young and This is only his second full season and wasn’t even bad in the playoffs.

Keep Dermott. Showed great signs this playoffs. Only weakness is decision making, which improves with age and if he plays with an experienced partner like Muzzin. Fast, good offensively and in transition, and very aggressive and gritty on D. Doesn't give up.

I'd rather keep Kapanen than take Larsson. And yes to the Nuttivara trade imo

He's a 6-3 C who can skate really well and is a good passer. He's struggled defensively in the Rangers system..... but so has everybody lol. In terms of performance thus far, he's put up pretty much an identical statline to Sam Steel thus far and they're the same age.

Howden and Dermott could both benefit from a change of scenery imo

Lehtonen was the best dman outside the NHL and Barabanov was also a great KHLer with the Trevor Moore comparison. You don’t bury them before they even play

Given Ken Holland's comments after the play-in series, I think there is an Adam Larsson deal to be made between Toronto and Edmonton. I'm not sure this is it though.

Didn't they talk explicitly about NOT trading Dermott lol? Trading the whole 3rd line is certainly a possibility though (only one that might get kept is Kerfoot). Sounds like Gudas is gonna be a prime target in free agency

could go for gudas instead of braun for sure. Nah Steve Dangle talked about potentially moving dermott, and how he wasn't sold on bringing him back

Lol I was more than half asleep by that stage, probably why I misremembered. I do remember them talking about not liking to trade guys under 23 but yeah Dermott's a weird one, he doesn't really fit on the depth chart as they want to develop Sandin but he's shown flashes of being really good. I think the best move for him is to go somewhere less stacked on the left side, see if he can grab a second pair role, but they'd want either a 3C or 2/3RHD back. Not sure if Howden is the guy but it's the right idea.
