Leafs Revamped post Dubas press conference

Created by: Benchwarmer4Life
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2020
Published: Aug. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Don’t ask me how we can afford the RFA s the year after but here we go.

Nylander trade is cap dump for quality futures. Nashville gets established player.

LA deal is again cap dump but get young RD who plays 15-20min. No idea if he kills penalties

Pietrangelo (or other decent UFA dman) to fill need on right side

Also so curious to see if big buff can still play and if he catches on with a contender for low dollars

I just find this never ending cycle so funny.
TOR fan base complains that they spent too much money on their top 4 and now they don’t have enough money to get F depth or Defence.

Then everyone proposes trading away one of the expensive big 4, only to then go and spend 8-10 mil on just signing Pietro lmao

Very true... the need is top right dman... only way to get them is draft (takes too long if not a rebuilding team), trade (giving away a good asset like Nylander or Marner) or UFA ( usually means over pay)

As I see it the UFA dmen that could play the right side are limited to 1-3 and 1 (Tanev gets injured a lot)

Probably because he’s cheap and it’s hard to fit anyone into this cap... plus going through this I find it hard to find teams that actually have what we need and need what we have. Then fit it all under the cap

Yeah I think a lot of people think that spreading the $ around (aka moving a forward to spend some $ on D) will cure the ails of the club. Biggest problem I have with this lineup is I dont think Nylander is going anywhere so if forwards are going out its likely Johnsson/Kapanen, I also think the org has a higher opinion of both Mikheyav and Barbanov then u have them listed as.

Imo Mik/Tavares/Willy starts the year as line 2, Robertson/Kerfoot/Barbs is line 3 and they use the trades to pick up a D around the $3-4m range and some depth/grit options and maybe some picks to bolster the prospect pool a little bit (I did a GM sim based on this on the site if u wanna take a look)

I personally think that the solution for Toronto would be be moving Nylander plus one of Johansson or Kapanen. Then taking that 10 mil cap space and get yourself two 5 mil D men (NOT one 10mil Petro).

Move a Nylander and target a Pesce or Klingberg or Parayko. Then take Kapanen and trade him for a 4-5 d man like a Zadorov or Montour type player.

Riley - Parayko/Klingberg/Pesce
Muzzin - Holl
Dermott - Zadorov

I could see those moves for sure... Zadarov intrigues me but he plays the left side

As a rebuilding team, the Kings will not be trading a 2nd round pick.

I don't think anyone overvalues Roy. I just think enough people realize that there Kings aren't going to trade him for "fair value." If Toronto offers his value in a trade, the Kings will just say no and keep him, because he's worth more to them than anything that Toronto is going to be willing to offer up.
