Minimal External moves for potential Leafs 2021

Created by: GreenM55
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2020
Published: Aug. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ana trade is a combination salary dump and offensive boost trade, dump $4m in Gudbranson to get Johnsson (850k retained) and rights to 2 potentially cost effective depth forwards, For Leafs its a bit of a salary dump to make room for Gudbranson's contract and also a couple picks coming in to bolster prospect pool.

TB trade is a depth forward grab plus rights to a should be cost effective D for a team that has few signed at this point for next year. Tor grabs Goodrow to replace the grit from Clifford going out while getting depth forward and bolsters pick situation

Re-signed Spezza (hoping he'll go for league min again like he did this year) and Ilya for a decent raise but not all in on him yet (would be ok with up to 2.25 for him)

last position is 3rd pair RD and I put 2 options in there, Liljegrin would be the internal option but would be another rookie in a lineup that already has 4 others so if the Leafs would rather go with a vet former Leafs 1st rounder would be cost effective and a steady option. Depending on which option they go with would have roughly $1m in cap space

I like your thought process... and it’s original. I think though tough to make any trades with Tampa because their cap is worse than ours.

I’ve definitely been looking for half decent 3rd or 4th line players with some grit.

That right side D is pretty bad though Holl would get eaten alive and schenn I believe was a minus on Tampa

yeah the Tampa one is a tough one for sure thats why one of the players I sent back was Dermott for some potential cost effective D for them the biggest block on that would be Kappenin, but u could do a Dermott for just Barclay and a pick and then dump Kapi for picks elsewhere too. Also I dont mind Holl on second pair he does decently well there especially when he plays with Muzzin that'd leave Schenn on the 3rd pair if at all and I think at limited minutes (either as just a 3rd pair or as an in/out with either Marincin/Liljegrin as a rotate) would be fine (also u are right he was -8 with TB this season)

Id actually think Schenn would be a good fit here with the right partner
