How do you plan on getting Askarov and Holtz? Holts won't drop out of the top 10, and Askarov won't drop past Carolina at 13

NJD has the 7th pick, so there's a good chance they'll get Holtz. I just picked Askarov because I liked him. The draft is crap shoot once you get past the top 5, so I just took a guess.

Holtz at 7 may be a bit high. I get you'll likely get Holtz, but Askarov I cannot see dropping past 13. Carolina desperately need a goalie and Askarov looks like he's got the potential to become a great one.

That's all speculation. Last year no one could see Caufield or Krebs falling 5-10 spots. Drafting a goalie in the 1st is still avoided by many, at 18, he might still be there.

Other than the fact Carolina pick 13th overall and Waddell has said they'll likely look to draft a goalie, sure. Caufield and Krebs fell but they're forwards. That's different to a team that desperatley needs a goalie wanting a goalie.

"We are going to draft a goalie" doesn't mean with their 1st pick. They could draft a goalie in any round that could become exactly what they are looking for, no guarantee Askarov becomes that, and he won't even be ready for years. Not saying they won't, not saying it would be a mistake. Just saying Canes probably didn't tip their hand by saying that.

Askarov is the highest rated goalie we've seen in drafts for a few years now. If Askarov is there, they will take him. It's a no brainer. This is a draft class deep in forwards, so you can use later picks to re-stock that cupboard. Askarov will not be there at 18. It's very possible Askarov goes top 10.

Blues are getting rawed here. There’s a less than 10% chance they get anything close to as valuable as Dunn/Allen for those picks and then they’d still have to move more cap to sign pietrangelo.

Yeah I agree that they are not getting equal value. However, like you mentioned they still need to sign Pietrangelo and I'm making the albeit biased assumption that the Devils will take advantage of that situation. I just think it'll be hard for the Blue to clear enough space to sign both Pietrangelo and Dunn, and with the Devils being willing to take on Allen's contract, it might make it worth it for STL.

Allen is hardly negative value
