Road to Contention

Created by: JordanCGrant
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 14, 2020
Published: Aug. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Crow gives you at least one more good season and Georgiev (may need higher trade bait) gets a look about being the goaltender of the future. Trading Murphy saves cap space and provides greater scoring depth while letting the prospects get experience. The hope would be that Mitchell can step directly in if not Carlsson looked good during the regular season. It would be a step back for a season defensively to move forward in the long-term

I'd try to move De Haan over Murphy. He's better, can play both side (right?) and that way you're not rushing Carlsson or Mitchell into a second pairing role. And if everyone pans out then suddenly you don't need to play Seabrook every night, which is a good thing. Though I kinda doubt Bowman will jettison both of his d acquisitions for last year after making the playoffs for the first time in awhile.

Why waste all of those assets when we could just offer sheet Gerorgie?

I would prefer to not move Murphy, but injury history on De Haan makes it harder to move him. Plus when he’s healthy he is a better defender.

What assets did they lose if your trading a back up goalie and a top 9 forward who the coach hates, but can’t bench. You’re not getting him for free and offer sheet means you’ll lose more in salary and draft picks.
