TURRIS

Created by: SweetRevenge19
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 14, 2020
Published: Aug. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I could see a Turris for Nielsen trade working for both teams.
With 2 extra years on Turris contract, the Preds must add.
So how much is fair and how much is ridding the contract worth to Preds.

Just awful for NSH. Buying out Turris is much preferable to giving up all those quality pieces, even before taking Nielsen back.

Yeah it’s def favoring Detroit rn. But it looks like Farrance won’t sign with Preds.

I mean if nashville would rather eat 2 years of nielson who wont hit the ice with that team instead of having turris for 4 more years then why woild we want him. I know hes not bad but I think id rather just wait out nielsons money and be done with it than have to do it with turris in a few years when we might actually need the money. If we want to chase a reclamation guy id try for wennberg.

Why does it look like he won't? He's stated that he wants to return for his senior year, but considering this year got canceled it's reasonable to see why he feels he has unfinished business. Even if he does return to BU there's no reason why he wouldn't want to sign with NSH - one of the best franchises at developing dmen, and one that has roster spots opening up for young players. And if the NCAA cancels the upcoming hockey season, which is still a strong possiblity, he could sign with NSH early so he'll have somewhere to play in 20-21.

You’re probably right. But also, he might not sign with you.

That possibility exists for every unsigned prospect in hockey though.

Yah I guess this is why Turris hasn’t been traded then. Buying him out at 2 mil cap hit for 8 years, EIGHT years, IMO just doesn’t seem like the something your GM wants to go ask your owner. Was trying to get creative bc the Wings don’t want that dumpster fire contract either. Keeping Nielsen isn’t hard for us.

And to add to that, he played with Fabbro at BU -- so I think that would be yet another draw for him to sign with Nashville. Nashville is opening spots for youth, per Poile's comments, so I don't really see a reason why he wouldn't want to play there.

But he also currently plays with DET prospects Robert Mastrosimone and Ethan Phillips if you want to go there.
And NY Ranger coach David Quinn was his coach and Farrance is from upstate NY, so there are obvious ties to the Rangers.

His BU teammate Patrick Harper has already signed with NSH too. Sometimes I feel the previous teammate connection thing gets overemphasized, but it can't hurt.

Sure, but Fabbro can actually tell him how it is playing for Nashville -- neither of those DET prospects can and neither can Quinn as that would be interfering. Nashville gave Fabbro a very good opportunity to succeed, I don't see why Nashville wouldn't do that for Farrance as well.

I really think Cholowski for Farrance straight up is a very fair trade. One age apart, both shoot L, both offensive, similar size and skating abilities. Maybe even Cholowski is better. If he had played in NCAA as a senior this year, no reason to say he wouldn’t have been one of the best defenseman and up for a Hobey Baker. If Cholowski had gone in the 3rd round nobody would be knocking him for his development.
And Cholowski is already signed and a fringe NHL player. So I thought it made sense for Preds. And we’ll see, it’s a big year for Cholo to show who he is.

Does DET actually want to get better right now? I mean Turris and his dumpster fire contract would be a big improvement on the ice, over Nielsen who's a dumpster fire of a player with a contract to match, but is getting better in DET's best interest yet? DET isn't going to turn things around meaningfully in the next couple years, with all the other over the hill, overpaid guys they're still stuck with, so wouldn't they be better off to keep tanking as much as possible for the next 2-3 seasons anyway? Wait until Nielsen, Filppula, Abdelkader, DeKeyser, etc are all off the books, before getting serious about being competitive again?

Yeah forgot about Harper. He seems like a good player, ppl like him, just undersized. And yeah I don’t think their connections should be overemphasized.

Yes sir. You’re 100 percent correct on all of that. Especially the part about Nielsen being a dumpster fire on the ice lol. But part of the position the Wings are in means exploring others ways to add assets into our rebuild. So I was just exploring dif ways with teams who might look to shed a contract. After the current Turris exercise, I’m seeing most scenarios don’t work for either team.

I agree, and wasn't trying to overemphasizing it, just adding another example of something that could push him towards signing with Nashville since he saw what it was like when Fabbro signed with them. If a team is willing to trade Subban (this was before his true decline with NJD) and bring in a college kid like Fabbro to replace him, then I would think that is the type of organization that I would want to sign with. It shows that the organization had faith in Fabbro and I think they have the same faith in Farrance (or at least should).

Thanks.
It was going to be Turris and a 2nd for Nielsen. But it felt like DET needed a better return to make it worthwhile. And that’s where the swap in picks came from. And Afanasyev was a mid 2nd pick last year who played a lot of Junior hockey in Michigan, so I thought maybe that fit as a prospect instead of a future Nashville 2nd.
I think to make it fair, probably take out the picks. And I freaked everyone out by putting Farrance in it.

I disagree about DET losing the best prospect. I'd rate Farrance above Cholowski by a fair bit - and I wouldn't sleep on Afanasyev either. His skating still needs work, but his combo of size and skill is tantalizing.

I don’t know about the Russian kid so I can’t evaluate him but Cholowski has already played pro hockey. It’s hard to evaluate an NCAA prospect who’s yet to play professionally, but Farrance has exciting numbers
