Just trades no UFA

Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2020
Published: Aug. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Expansion protection 7-3-1

McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Yamamoto, Buchnevich, Zacha, Johnsson, (Add Benson if RNH does handshake deal or replace Johnsson if Benson develops well)
Klefbom, Bear, Jones
Georgiev

Toronto trade
Johnsson for two players leafs had interest in last year. Its 2 roster spots filled for same cap.

Montreal trade
Weal gives Oilers right hand center that is decent in the faceoff dot, Chiasson give solid bottom 6 RW option while being Quebecois

New York trade
Nurse makes NYR harder to play against as GM wants also solves the 3 goalie situation and the too many top 6 forwards after winning the lottery. JP helps replaces Buchenvich/Fast on right side. Wouldn't mind dropping pick to 2nd and 3rd if carolina gets knocked out early.

New Jersey trade
NJD have decent C depth with Hischier, Hughes, Zajac(short term), McLeod so they move Zacha to get AA(plus a B prospect sweetner) to push Wood out of the top 6

Rangers trade is definitely interesting. I think you need to qdd a 2nd or something though.
Buch = Nurse
PoolParty > Georgiev (due to potential) but the difference isnt the 1st

He was looking good, but yea he will be needed soon. I thought about signing veteran who could be lower end #4 (Kulikov, Dillion, Edmundson) if any would sign a 1 year deal around ~2M could be a placeholder

Oilers are a bit strapped on picks so would just likely lower the NYR pick instead of adding on EDM side

So the Rangers trade a Top 6 F, a young potential starter, and a 1st for a Top 4 Dman and a bust? lolno

Hes not a bust, he very likely is a 3rd liner at worst. Just chose not to sign this year

Call Nurse a top 4 all you want but he'd definitely be playing 24+ minutes on Rangers top pairing and hasn't missed a game in last 3 years.

As for Georgiev being a "potential starter" he has a .913 sv% and only has quality starts 52% of the time he is more of a potential 1B. I see him more of a temporary solution til Oilers find a better option. (sidenote Talbot who had .931 sv% and 62.3% quality starts for NYR got traded for a 2nd and 3rd)

JP bust or not won't be determined til he comes back to NHL after his double hip surgery which seem to do wonders for his game in Liiga this year.

I'll say the 1st was probably too high but was trying to squeeze a team that feels like they might just be few NHL players away from real success after the lottery win

Confusing to me why Ranger fans want to move a C that works well with Panarin, guessing its all to do with cap cause NYR C depth isn't very strong

Talbot was several years older and closer to UFA, so had less team control.

Nurse might be playing 1st pairing minutes on the Rangers, yeah, but that's because of lack of depth at LHD at the NHL level, not lack of long-term options

Puljujarvi is a throw-in, at best, and I wouldn't trade any one of the pieces in the trade for him. Most I'd give is a 4th.

Because Strome's production is solely off bread man. We could put Chytil there and receive the same production without giving $5-6M.
