Yikes. Bura and Nichuskin will get more (lets say 4M additional cap hit). But that trade just doesn't work moneywise. Landeskog, Grubauer and Makar need an extension next year and all will get a raise. Sure, some money will get of the books. But Marner would ruin the cap situation for years to come given the uncertainties right now

It's just not worth it for the Avs unless you retain. 11M is a deep cut in their salary hit, and it would ruin their already perfect team in the following years.

@Nighthawk
Deals are kinda messed up:
- Bura gets 4.75
- Jost gets 1.8
- Nichushkin gets 2.5
- Graves gets 2.7 (2 year bridge)

1st and 2nd are good.
3rd - Jost, Compher, Nichushkin
4th - Calvert, Bellemare, Kaut
AHL - Newhook

Yes it was guessing not knowing enough about players.
Could live without Nichushkin imo

Try your own ACGM using my trade as you know more than I do.

Ok I’ll take a look tomorrow but your welcome to just edit your lines and signings to match my figures.

Nichushkin is pretty important piece to COL two way game

Why would TO trade Marner for 2 depth pieces and a left defenceman? They have Rielly, Muzzin, Dermott, Sandin and Lehtonen who are LD. Everyone loves to bash Marner and Nylander and yet everyone wants them, they are just so desperate to rip off the Leafs. Not going to happen.

I don't think everyone wants them. I don't want Marner. If he made $8-9M or so then sign me up, but his contract is extremely unappetizing. If Toronto moves him, they will likely be disappointed with the return (IMO).

Nylander is a different story. The team doesn't need to be gutted to fit his contract in. That's a big deal these days.

I liked this post before I read the part about nylander.. guy has had 1 above average season for 7mill per, absolutely horrible at centre, as you can see from there play-in round. You could get someone better in UFA for cheaper and probably for less term if you wanted

Nylander is a great 5v5 guy, which is preferable to a guy who does a good amount of his damage on the PP. I agree the Avs probably go a different route because the cost of acquiring Nylander would be prohibitive, but he's definitely a fit and on a reasonable contract (IMO). Marner, on the other hand, doesn't even spark a conversation unless the Leafs retain. Thanks for the like though, lol.

I feel like his stats are inflated 5v5 because of Matthew's, he was terrible 5v5 centring his own line so much so that the tsn toronto media were talking about how he hates playing centre.

I feel like as complimentary piece hes not worth the assets on the trade and the 7mill pricetag. I'd rather just resign names and use his versatility..

P.s. nylander looks stupid the way he wears his helmet

Only for teams with bad contracts. The Islanders for example have Leo, Boychuk, Ladd and Leddy none of which offer value for their contracts. Marner is a 90 point player and would be the best offensive player on a lot of teams. If people bothered to consider that instead of comparing him to guys who are on steals of a deals his contract isn't at all bad. What would you rather have, Leddy, Boychuk and Leo? Marner? Only a crazy person would say the other 3.

That's a weird premise. Why compare to the bad contracts of the Islanders? It makes no sense. For Colorado it would be more like would you rather have Burakovsky, Compher, and Nichushkin or Marner? Idgaf what the Isles have on their payroll.

I am just pointing out that a 90 point player who drives play and can take over a game is hard to overpay. While its easy to have several players making too much that don't really don anything. Colorado doesn't have many of those so you are in a good position. Same as TO.

Ok gotcha. Yeah if a team is careful about their other contracts then they can afford to pay their stars. Toronto has a bit of a tax disadvantage. After Marner signed, I calculated what the same take home pay would be in Colorado (for Rantanen purposes) and came up with something south of $10M. It's not an awful contract and would have been fine if the cap were rising. It's really tough under the circumstances though (imo).
