Its literally a retained contract but okay, Marner for under 9M through his prime is bad for a team I guess

well it's worse than having byram, newhook, 1st and 2nd.

Marner is better right now than that package, typical of a current player for futures where the prospects/picks will be at least as good as the player being traded to have the player now

Okay thanks Joe Sakic, shouldn't you be working instead of on Capfriendly?

Nah I'm aware, a solid 2nd line C likely and essentially a guarenteed top 4 dman with really good upside. You just don't know how good the player they're trading the prospects for is I guess

This comment reminds of when half the isles fanbase wanted to trade barzal + pulock for duchene when they were both prospects. It’s likely byram will be a top pairing Dman and newhook has the potential to be a star center. This trade can look extremely bad within 2 years.

I think Colorado is so good and deep already that a trade like this may look bad but wouldn't actually hurt them. They'd be cup favourites for awhile adding Marner, even without Byram and Newhook. Don't know why the Leafs would move Marner for less than this though

Kadri has been great but he’s a placeholder for newhook. They don’t need Marner, he would obviously improve the team but they easily pass on acquiring him if they have to give two of the top 5 prospects in the NHL right now.

The leafs should look to trade marner for a RHD. Ellis, parayko etc..

I personally dont think the Leafs should trade Marner anyways, why move a great right shot playmaker with the Leafs lefty shooting talent it makes no sense. Kap for Murphy or something is the most beneficial to the team, Leafs aren't changing their playstyle so they still need elite forwards

How is Marner on 8.95 mil bad value for Colorado? If anything that is an underpayment
They get a 95 point winger with potential to reach 100 playing along side that top 6
We get back prospects and picks(take out the 1st or 2nd) who will not be as proven as Marner
Colorado is already set with offensive d for the future with girard and Makar, they don’t need byram and new hook is a potential 2c which will have to be given up if they are looking to get Marner but can be replaced in FA once Kadri is gone.
They get the better player now and probably for the future
We get the two prospects more fit for our team
Colorado top six
Burakovsky-Mackinnon-Rantanen
Landeskog-Kadri-Marner

There ya go.
