Why would Pitts do that? They save money but only for the one year, it gets them nowhere

Is Tatar really that change? Move Johnson’s contract for less and sign Hall, Hoffman or dadanov

if tatar can score more then 20 goal playing with a Defensive center like danault how much can he score beside malkin or crosby?

And dont forget he retain a part of his salary so tatar will cost something like 2.8 to pens

I like Tatar but he fit in perfectly in our system and on a line with gally and danault. Danault also had crazy good numbers 5v5 so don’t call him “defensive”. I think you can shed Johnson and sign one of the mentioned above or trade for some big talent. That trade is a lot to give up for tatar

If they sign a guy like Dandonov as well, theyre becoming a pretty good team once again imo.

Imo Tatar extended and retained is worth more than Poulin. Then that money saved (especially the four years remaining on JJ contract) plus the second and the extra value of Tatar gives the 15th OA. Maybe replace the 2nd with Mete. That would gives them a young LHD able to play top 4 minutes

Tatar is only retained for this one year. Yes they can sign dadanov and Tatar but where’s the money coming from? The 7 that we take back basically is given to Tatar. Can’t see how Tatar is worth 15, poulin and 3 years at 3.25 for jack Johnson, it’s not that difficult to burry him like alzner

people seem to miss the point about getting younger. Not bringing in guys who are 30.

Penguins probably play Poulin next year. That is my guess. Him and Hallander. It's good for the cap, and probably the best option they have.
Tatar is a good player. But the last thing they need is another smallish forward on the Crosby line. The problem isn't the skill. It's they are always getting knocked to the ground by teams playing them heavy because the line is small.
Tatar doesn't really fix that. The goal is to win the playoffs not the regular season.

This core have to change they win it twice and they think they can do it again without pushing so they dont push and lose to a small team MTL

The core isn't the issue. It never has been. It wasn't the issue when the penguins didn't win after 2009, and it isn't the issue now. It is and always has been the supporting members.
No one is expecting Crosby or Malkin to go out there and deliver huge hits or drop gloves. Star players don't do that. They end up with a broken hand or something.
And no one would say they don't play hard. They do. They dominated in ice time. This team lost to MTL because of the support around them. They need a 6'3 6'4 winger with size who is a rough guy on the top line with crosby, so when they go after his 40 goal winger there is someone to smack them around for it.
They also need better 3rd pairing defense. MTL isn't dumb. They knew which defense pair to target and they ate them alive. The 3rd pairing gave up like 60% of the goals. That can't be.
