Would Ottawa take Smith's last year for dropping that 3rd in the Tony trade? Smith's salary is lower than his cap hit next season, which has Melnyk written all over it. Just flip him at the deadline to some team that wants a depth dman. Can also toss in Lias if they want more to take that on.

Why is Ottawa trading for DeAngelo? I'd rather them trade for Georgiev...

11 million dollars in buyout money is just crazy. Why dont you add staal to the georgiev trade so I can just give you one pick. I dont want to give 2

Ottawa doesn't want Smith. It would cost you a 2nd to dump him.

I'd do a mid 2nd for Georgiev + Smith

Im trying to get the later of OTTS (3) first round picks, looking to move up the board from the CAR pick. Georgiev wont get a 1st, unless we build a complete deal with OTT for Tony D & AG ... ???

I just don't see them moving it for Anthony D. The Sens don't really need him they need a defensive defenceman.

Maybe Chytil + Smith + Georgiev for the 1st?

I’d do this from Detroit and you can switch it up to remove a pick and add a buyout if that helps. The player would probably waive their NTC as there would a tax advantage and do they really care if the check comes from the Rangers or Detroit if it’s more?

The Rangers will not be able to use LTIR this year so the whole plan doesn't work.

The Red Wings will not want to move multiple picks this year in a deep draft, even for an upgrade in net when there will be other options open. (They wont be good next year unless everything breaks their way, so no rush on a long term solution)

Far point even if it was the 2020 2nd (EDM) & even later pick, lets say a 4th or 5th in 2021 ..?

I dont understand all of these NYR and OTT trades where the LTIR contract comes to NYR. Ottawa is the last team that would trade away a free cap hit. There are still 2-3 years away from that type of move.

Fair point as well but OTT may not see him as a Long term option but a RHD that can put up 50 plus points & play PP1 at a likely manageable cap hit (5.5 million) can add value now & trade value down the line, hes 24 it's not some sort of cap dump.

What would your ask for the 3RD 1st rounder (ISL) ?

They still need to pay Gaborik, no cap hit but his extension with LA was not insured (as i understand it) so it saves the OTT owner $3,075,000 of his money.

Why do you think NYR can's use LTIRR? Because of the current number of buyouts, retained salaries?

i guess. The deals doesnt make a ton of sense. They have to now pay DeAngelo more money than benefit he will provide. Ottawa will need shutdown defenders until they get a strong goalie and/or forwards with enough experience to be defensively sound. They could trade the Gaborik contract in a deal to a team that needs more cap space by swapping a low money, high cap deal. Stepan comes to mind.

OTT has their 2 offensive defenseman in Brannstrom and Chabot.

The problem is that there were behavioural concerns, and that this was a career year. I dont know to what degree we can bank on this production next year.

OTT is at the depth of a rebuild, and were not at the point to try and accelerate the rebuild. Most likely were just gonna take a swing on a high ceiling pick with NYI.

NYR can definitely get this kind of value for DeAngelo, the value is fair, its just that OTT isnt the correct fit.

Simple NYR can not use LTIR with bonuses they are carrying. The bonus cushion for a 81.5 million cap is 6.1 million (7.5%). If you have bonuses that are over that it would mean you have to be that much under the cap in order to be legal. LTIR doesnt count unless you are over the cap and doesnt start until the start off the league year. You can not have both LTIR with bonuses that exceed the limits. Remember LTIR is not bankable nor is it cap space under the CBA, its relief. NYR is going with the Laf and other bonus babies is going to have a cap limit of about 75-76 million or someone is going to have be traded or in the minors.
