The Hawks would rather buyout Maatta.

Bit confused by this thought process?

We need the cap space more than a filler. Would rather continue to develop our own ELCs like Nylander and Kurashev for example than have Marcus' cap hit.

Interesting. So it’s going to be more of a draft pick only kind of deal?

For Maatta. I do think a pick is the best route for the Hawks....Or ELC or prospect. And they should be actively seeking out this kind of return. It might not be the best route for the other team. I can fully understand that.

Athanasiou and Skinner on the same line seems like a defensive nightmare. I would not want Maatta on my second pair. He could pass as a 6/7 but that is a lot of salary to pay for that large a role

The Jets can't afford to move out a center for an expensive defenseman they don't really need.

Than buy out Johansson. Nearly same salary and 1 year vs 2

From what I remember, Skinner isn’t terrible in his own end, but I know AA is. I feel like that’s the type of player they should be looking for in a Montour deal. Any other ideas you have?

Edit: Eichel and Reino carried Olofsson defensively all year as he is not very good in his own end haha. So if Skinner is fine, they should be able to hold up AA

I think Oloffson is a much more responsible player than AA. Honestly I am not a fan of this player at all. I don't think he brings a ton to the table offensively either. He is very fast but does not seem to be a good playmaker or have any hockey sense. I would love a player like Alex Tuch or Kasperi Kapanen. Not sure that would be a 1 for 1 deal or if we have to add, but those are 2 players I would target. Maybe Silfverberg in Anaheim also
