I'd do Marner + Dermott for Ehlers + Jets 2020 1st round pick.

We don't need Heinola we already have a log jam at LHD.

Far too much coming from Winnipeg with Marner's contract. Winnipeg would not consider it.

No I don't think it is at all Marner is top five at his position point production wise ahead of wheeler and Laine. Ehlers is a great player but we have a lot of depth on the left side and opens up a spot in the top six for Roslovic, Vaisailinin or Harkins. I put Vaisailinin in because he adds more size and if the Jets wanted to move Wheeler to the middle we would still have Marner and Laine to play RW if we choose.

Heinola is still largely unproven and Niku still needs to find his groove in the nhl. Both might be an overpay but you wouldn't get more then a third for niku most likely. He also needs to be on the roster next season. I'd rather insert Samberg and Stanley if both are ready to add some size on the back end over heinola and niku.

Logan Stanley isn't close to NHL ready, he was brutal in the AHL last year. I also think you're undervaluing Ehlers. He was the Jets best forward last year. he makes almost half the money of Marner and honestly isn't that much worse than him. Ehlers is one of the best 5V5 producers in the league and Marner gets a ton on the powerplay playing with Matthew/Tavares. If Ehlers was on the first PP he would have 90 point seasons.

I don't necessarily disagree with all your points but when you trade a guy like Ehlers on a great value contract for Marner who while great has a big price tag you've lost your cap flexibility just like the Leafs now, think about when Laine gets a big raise next offseason added to Marner, Connor and Wheeler and you're pretty much in the same situation as the Leafs, four guys eating up half your cap, no thanks to that headache as great a player as Marner is!

Also I'm all for dealing the two little Finn puck movers but not in a deal like this.

25.5 million in cap space next off season with a roster of 14, Pionk, Laine and copp come in around 18.5. Seven million to ice five more.

Gustaffson
Berdin
Reichel

Would be around 2 6
Poolman 2-2.5
League minimum depth defensman.

Still in good shape cap wise

Marner, Mathews, Tavares and Nylander are 40.5
Marner, Scheiffelle, Wheeler, Connor and Laine will come in around 41.5 not as big of a Jam. Helly is on a value contract for 4 more years, same as Scheiffelle and Morrissey for 6 more would even call connor a value contract

Left room to resign Bealieu to an insurance contract if need be
