The Leafs say no because Larsson has only 1 year left and they cannot really afford that cap hit.

Oilers say no because moving a top 4 d for a marginally ok 3c that isn’t capable of winning faceoffs and has term wouldn’t be interested in committing to.

Jarry for Puljujarvi

Pittsburgh counters with Puljujarvi for your choice of Rodrigues, Angello, Czuczman, or Trotman. (And yes, that is an "or")

Funny that you would use the term Marginal to describe Kerfoot as a 3c but not marginal to describe Larson as a top 4. Larson would be top 4 on the Leafs but only by default. On a team with any kind of depth he’s 3rd pair. Really when you look at value it’s close. Leafs likely add a ms round pick because of the defence to forward value ratio. But I think both teams would be best suited to look elsewhere to get what they need.

No he doesn’t. I get why silly people say silly things like that from fan bases afar but you should know him better than that. He was good for you and he’s still doing the same job. After bonus is paid he’s a massive bargain without question.

Oh you thought you would get two 3rds from a contending team for a 13th F?

WTFDH SOAB, he has a friccin 4 milion cap hit & is an undisputed bottom pair guy & u think he is worth a 2nd?, also i never watched him play with the flames so dont assume things like that

The more and more I’ve looked at kerfoot the only resemblance I see him fitting for Edmonton is he is listed as a 3c as a player in just about no way does he fit what I’d be looking for in that role. Kinda assume oilers are shopping a RD however moving him in a deal like this kinda creates same problem leafs are trying to fix. More flexibility in moving a LD.

He’s only owed 1.5 not 4 so to a team with internal budgets on payroll which is very common for most businesses that just took huge hit finically he does hold tremendous value. Probably not a 2nd but a 3rd really isn’t out of the question. He’s capable of middle pairing duty while able to play RD or LD. Tremendous team mate from all accounts among the best shot blockers playing. He’s definitely not the bumm he’s made out to be by those that don’t watch him play.

Cap hit matters less than money owed to internal budget teams. Think panthers and Ottawa are the only ones watching player payroll?

the problem is the flat cap. At 4M there are drastically better options on the FA market. Maybe a team like Detroit or Ottawa take him for a 4th or something though.

Statements like this really show how little some people on this site understand hockey. CAP IS KING. Except for a very few southern US market teams and Melnyk - no teams are more concerned with the actual cash than they are the cap hit. At a $4M cap the human starfish is most certainly a negative value!!

This site is insanely off about negative value. Useful players have positive value I’m not sure it’s really needed to explain that further. As strange as it may sound gms tend to care more about what a player is capable of doing on the ice more than they care about contracts. Having a salary cap is just a numbers game making things fit it’s not over difficult to understand that.
Yes cap hits hurt players values but it doesn’t turn negative unless they aren’t capable of playing.
