17/18 -- acquire the Sedins for a Cup run

Description
What do you think F50marco?

If the Canadiens show they're an upper echelon team with a healthy Price in 2016/17, I think they'd be tempted to do a deal like this.

Scherbak and Juulsen are good, but not elite prospects, so I added the two late 2nd rounders from the Hawks and Caps to add value for Van. The Habs would effectively get another scoring line at half price for a full year and the playoffs.

I'd do it on a few conditions though alwaysnextyear. Most of which would be answered at the end January 2017.

1) Sergachev makes the team in 16-17 and shows he's able to stick. Similar to how well Lindholm/Trouba/Hedman/Ekblad/Matta did at 19 for me to be comfortable with that defense.

2) Habs would have to be able to move out some salary first. Trade Emelin for as little salary coming back as possible.

3) Price plays minimum 60 games in 16-17, doesn't get injured. Looks solid.

4) Sedins show they are still capable of being impactful. No major visible slow downs in their game.

5) Not losing someone important in the expansion draft as a result of Sedins NMC's.

Lots of conditions I know but truth is, I'm not sure i want to mortgage a lot of future for a run at the cup we might not be able to win regardless of the addition of the Sedins.

1) I also think a deal like this would really hinge on Sergachev's progress. If he legitimately earns a spot this season, I would think he'd be in that calibre group of young Dmen you mentioned by the following year.
2) Canucks could easily take back Emelin for one season. I left him on the roster for MTL because I figured he's probably still a good 3rd pair guy, even if overpayed.
3) No brainer there. If Price has recurring injury issues the Habs are sunk and there's no need to make a trade to put them 'over the top' into contender status.
4) As long as they're able to avoid major injuries, I think the Sedins can continue playing at a high level for another few years. Their game has always been built around smarts, puck control, good cycling and board work, and ESP-like passing. Even if they lose a step speed-wise it shouldn't affect their game that much.
5) This deal could go down after the expansion draft (not sure when it will be, but I assume earlier in the off-season).

Agree with LilAdreil. When I saw the title...."Acquire Sediins for a Cup run". Well I didn't expect to see a Montreal rostersmile

PALHAL'S done enough to burn this Bruins fan's bridge. MTL Is nothing to sneeze at, wake up yo #1 goalie + #15 or so d + #18 or so f prob is a playoff team! P. S. I'd love to smite MTL down as a Bruins fan, but if Price is healthy anything can happen.

The Sedins are going nowwhere. They will retire Nucks. I think that the value is close but Montreal would have to add more I think.
Personally I think the Habs need to get another Dman since I don't believe that Sergachev is ready.

Agreed. Some guys should just finish their career's with their teams. Sedins have spent too long with Canucks to just go elsewhere at a chance for a cup. Sure the Ray Bourque trade from Boston to Colorado got him the cup finally but it kind of felt like hooking up your ex wife with your best friend because they looked like they'd be good together.

If Vancouver asks for more then they won't get a deal done. The Sedins are stars but at the time of this trade they'll be 37 with one year left on their contract and probably going to retire after that. I'm sorry but two 1st round prospects and two 2nd rounders is a lot to pay for that.

Benning isn't retaining half on the Sedins, You want them you pay full price and shed tons of salary.

Fair enough, the price for them then becomes a lot less. Since both have to be moved together, a team needs to have 14M in cap space to make it work. Then they have to lose young cheap assets also. Calling it right now, no team would ever trade for both Sedins together without salary being retained. They're just not worth it.
