I don't think TO can make the salary work for that trade. Also Trouba wants to stay in the US.

The Leafs say no

1. they don't need a backup
2. Trouba is overpayed more than Marner is
3. The Carolina 1st rounder will be a late one

You'd have to retain on Trouba. His contract is a bigger overpay than Marner's.

How about Marner for Trouba and Kakko?

Would you even consider the taking on the contract of Trouba? Maybe if his cap hit would be between 5-5.5m per year

I think he's a very good player but had bad year.

I don't think the Jets consider it. Strome will be looking for a nice raise for his last pro contract and is more of a 3C. Maybe if all other options are exhausted, the Jets may check back on Strome.

I would say he had 2 bad years in the last 3 years. He was bad this year, great the year before but also kind of bad the year before last year.

As I said, 5-5.5m per year would be closer to what he should earn.

Toronto can’t afford the Trouba deal, plus he doesn’t wanna be in Canada. No chance that St. Louis moves Thomas.

We wouldn’t do that simply because of the cap and Kakko only makes $925k for two more years.

The Nylander trade is redundant your trying to get rid of a top 6 winger to make room for a franchise player then in return you get a top 6 winger and play the franchise winger on the 3rd line! Lafrenier can step into the top 6 next year moving Krieder for Nylander and holding Lafreniere back. It's no wonder with lineups like this so many fan bases want to trade for Lafreniere!

And after they OS Dunn, we're supposed to send them Thomas... magic delusion time.

Kakko has big bonuses though. Cap is pretty even.

I’d still rather Kakko and not add another almost $11 mil contract to the books

Yeah I don't like his contract either but I think it's not terrible. With Rielly I think they would be a very good pair but it's a moot point.
