Cap Dumping Marner To Build A Powerhouse

Created by: AnalyticsGeek
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 17, 2020
Published: Aug. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this scenario, there are no teams willing to give up assets for Marner, so the Leafs trade him in a salary dump circumstance. They clear his 11 million dollar salary as it goes on LTIR and convince the two big name free agents to sign for less money.

Obviously not a realistic scenario, but what'd y'all think of this team I constructed? Should they win the Stanley Cup?

Why not? What’d you think they’re missing? Do you at least think they make a run?

Same here.

Think he initially pasted that huge list of names on that first comment as he usually does and then overwrote it with the text that is there now...

This sure looks like another anti-Marner post by you to get a reaction from Leafs nation. Marner is everything that is right with being a professional hockey player. He is a franchise player for the Leafs and potential 90 to 110 point player and will never be traded. He is liked by teammates and fans and is a tremendous role model for a lot of young fans and does nothing but great things for a lot of less fortunate people in this world. I understand that you are really a Penguins fan who is very jealous of the Leafs and Marner and find most of your posts follow a common theme of bashing Marner.

That bottom 6F is pretty suspect.
Mikheyev, NAK, Engvall, Gauthier has no real playoff experience.
Spezza another year older.
Kerfoot is ok i guess but doesnt carry that line.

Depens on how they play. I think the Leafs need to pay more attention to details such as having stick in the passing lanes etc., as well as playing more compact with more structure. They will not win much before they change that. I think Columbus, the Islanders and Carolina do that well for example

Your comment is exactly why he tries to troll leafs fans. Marner isn’t a “franchise” level player and he’s not a 110 point guy Lol. If leafs fans stopped overrating marner, no one would make troll posts like this

Fair point, but most of the team has not endured much playoff success. I think looking at them from an ability perspective, they are definitely good enough. Elite top 6 forward talent, the bottom 6 forwards are extremely heavy forecheckers & strong defensively while the defence is much improved.

That 3rd pairing on D would have to be sheltered too. They could get exposed badly

This is not a troll post, just my experimentation to see if the Leafs can fit both Pietrangelo and Hall if they move Marner. I just put no effort in the Marner trade.

Whitecloud has done extremely well in terms of defensive play this playoff. Sandin should be ready for a full time spot next season.

Id suggest not pairing a 23 yo and a 20yo with combined 7 NHL playoff games of experience together, in my opinion

Somebody will give you something for Marner. Don’t think the dump is necessary. Don’t see Philly giving up AK. I’d keep Holl and Kapanen. Skip the Hall signing. Pietro prolly costs a little more than that as well

If you're not going to "put no effort in the Marner trade." Please, just don't post. Trading Marner and his cap...takes effort.

I think I'd find dubas and punch him in the face personally if he ever did the marner deal. If marners value is two extreme cap dumps then I dont think any players outside of their ELCs have the ability to be traded.

Obviously with the roster additions in Hall and Pie our team looks good but that marner deal just sucks for the leafs

I've harder time depicting which one is the bigger troll, the OP or the one who commented that "Marner is a 110 point player" garbage.

Trade Marner for a RD that's on an ELC. Idk someone not named Fox/or Makar.

Yeah it's not ideal but for a limited third pairing role, it should be fine.
