Letting Markstrom Walk

Description
I realize we probably aren't a playoff team if we don't sign Marky but not having to trade Eriksson or Roussel when they both a have two years left works out in the long term. If after this year Demko doesn't look like a legit starter yet they can go out and get someone on a short term deal until either Demko or Dipietro are ready for starter duties.

Markstrom is priority number 1 for the Canucks and there is mutual interest between both sides to get a deal done.

Obviously but if the deal is over 6mil and is longer than 5 years they would be better to walk away

True. But I think both sides will come to an agreement which is fair.

    Yes!!!!

Not to mention, if you don't sign one of either Toffoli or Vitarnen, the money is easily there there to resign Petterson.

The power of the flat cap is going to handcuff everyone this year. The tender market is completely flooded. Markstorm signs a 1-2 year deal at maybe $4-5 million. If he doesn't like it, move in to Holtby, Lehner, Murray, Georgiev, Crawford......

I think I painted the picture. As good as he has been, his negotiating power with a flat cap is greatly reduced.

I can use the flat cap argument on both Vitarnen and Tofolli too. Both contracts are too rich imo.

Tofolli is short term at $4.25 million..... teams with cap room will weaponize it or blow their wad on Hoffman, Hall and Dadonov. Not to mention..... almost wvery real contender doesn't have that kind of room to offer him that money without subtracting.

Vitarnen is about $2.25-$2.5 million on a bridge...... and managing to play his way out of the playoff isn't helping his cause.

I don’t think Vancouver should resign Toffoli. Yeah he was a good fit when he came here but lots of players can look good playing with Petey and Millsy. Three reasons they should let him walk.. First he was regressing his last couple of years of LA and his one weakness is skating. Signing a 28 year old to a multi year deal is risky especially when his wheels could fall off and turn into an anchor contract. Second RW is a position of strength in the Vancouver system.. Signing Toffoli to a multi year deal blocks Podkolzin from playing in the top 6. They also have Kole Lind in the system who plays RW. Third signing him costs you another draft pick. Not that a 4th round pick is a deal breaker but it’s the cherry on top of the first two reasons
