Jersey isn’t trading the 7th overall.

theres potential to this trade (leafs would have to add of course) but i dont see Marner going. The person i see going is Nylander. Marner and Matthews have chemistry, ever since the 2 were paired together Matthews has seen massive gains and combined with Hyman that line one of the best in the NHL.

I say (Foote+Severson+Van or Arizonas first) for Nylander is what Toronto should go for. Saves cap, brings in a strong RD and gives us a prospect we can either use in the future or trade for more value.

I strongly disagree. Marner is the guy who should be traded. And most of the games it is Matthews and Nylander and Marner and Tavares.

for getting Marner they would. Let us be honest. Zacha is not more than a 3rd liner. Palmieri is not young anymore and a UFA soon and Severson is not more than an average NHL defender, nothing special

I never said that trade was fair. Palmeiri is still only 29. Zacha is the kind of player you win with and is still only 21 and finally given an opportunity under a new coach to prove that he can be a second liner and I think he will next year. Severson is probably a number three defenceman at $4 million which holds some pretty decent value. I like Marner but not for $11 million and giving up the seventh overall pick. I’d rather keep that pick

Marner is younger than Nylander and is something the leafs need as he is a playmaker. Goalscoring comes natural for a player, playmaking abilities do not. Marner is a rare breed of hockey player who centers want by their side. The league had seen many good goalscorers but playmakers are becoming increasingly rare which is why having one greatly benefits a team.

As for the games not really, people can all agree Matthews being paired with Marners was great for both players. Stats and analytics show it. The chemistry is there and Matthews is doing better rn than he was with Nylander. Matthews played with Nylander for 2 months of this season than when keefe arrived within a week he paired Matthews with Marner and the results were instant. Matthews was showing regression under Nylander which was why everyone was requesting for Babcock to pair Marner with him. Babcock being Babcock refused resulting in his firing.

In general while Marner does not score on the Pace of Nylander, Marner brings more to the table than Nylander, he penalty kills and despite being small can make plays happen both offensively and defensively. Nylander is purely a goalscorer and brings little in terms of defense.

Marner does not bring defence either.

Also, goalscoring is still the hardest thing to do in the NHL.

The Leafs cannot pay 3 guys that much and they cannot trade Matthews and Tavares, this does not mean other teams can't, but having 3 players making that much is hard. Marner is the guy who should go. Give up value to get value. Also, saying that Nylander is not a playmaker too is kind of crazy

moving marner isnt the smart choice. Its gonna be like the Kadri trade and come back to bite us. Marner in general is younger and is only going to get better especially with Matthews. Nylander is the easiest to move and while it wont be easy to replace his goal scoring ability leafs will manage fine without him. Heck before he signed his contract 2 years ago they were on a role without him. And when he came back was when the trouble started.

Moving Nylander out is not gonna create enough of signficant change, a message of change needs to be sent to players.

I'd argue trading Nylander instead of Marner will have the same effect the Kadri trade in the locker room... which will mean nothing changes.
