I don’t think Mittlestadt is the player that is right for Torts system.

That being said I think the Sabres would make this deal

Dubas was apparently high on Bemtrom at the '17 draft, but not this high smile

I would have to assume anything with the CLB & TOR that involved Nylander would include Anderson (to replace the RW gap) , David Savard (shut down D they need) and and one of Korpisalo or Merzlikins.

Peeke is 100% off the table... he’s the only top 4 RHD prospect we have to replace Savard if he leaves as a UFA or if we trade him. This is bad for both Toronto and Columbus.

Who is available? I feel like every trade proposal on here involving the Jackets gets the same response as that player isn't available/off the table/untouchable/etc. If you want a young 2C or an impact winger you're going to have to give up a good young asset or two. Nobody is trading their 2C/winger for bottom pairing or 29 year old rental dmen or bottom 6 forwards.

Columbus doesn’t need a young center though... we have Foudy, Texier and Grigorenko (who I don’t expect a ton from).

Columbus isn’t going to trade futures right now. We have arguably the worst prospect pool in the NHL and have 4 picks in next years draft, 1 of them in the top 100 selections. We aren’t trading young players or draft picks right now. Nylander would be a good fit (if he was a center) in Columbus but we can’t afford to trade for him unless Savard (with an extension), Anderson and a 2022 2nd is an acceptable price. Which honestly isn’t a good price for him. So no Columbus can’t afford to trade for an under 26 second line center. We just have to wait and develop the players we have. Something most leaf fans can’t seem to comprehend doing (Liljegren and Sandin are going to be studs just give them time).

I'm a Leafs fan but happen to live in Columbus and root for the Jackets in all but three regular season games a year.

The big problem with waiting and developing on a yearly basis like Jarmo has been doing is it just doesn't seem the the future ever arrives. I see Foudy and Texier as more wings than likely 2C of the future but assuming one of them does develop to 2C the team will have wasted the RFA years of Jones/Werenski/PLD/Bjorkstrand/etc. I've been hearing for years about how the team is the youngest in the NHL and Pittsburgh and Washington are on the decline but teams like Carolina and Philly look like their positioned to take their place. If teams don't make moves to add that piece or two they're missing someone else will.

You obviously missed what Jarmo did last year when he traded for Duchene and Dzingle to go for it. This team isn’t in a position to go for it right now and if we trade Peeke and lost Savard that leaves Jones as the only RHD that’s NHL level. So unless Savard signed an extension Peeke is 100% off the table. There’s a fine line between staying competitive and mortgaging your future. Columbus isn’t in a spot to move young players when we have no prospects or picks to refill it. So yes we go get Nylander to be the 2nd line center and Savard, and Murray walk as UFAs and Nuttivaara is taken in the expansion draft. Columbus is left with a d core of Werenski, Jones, Kukan, Harrington, Carlsson and Hjorth? That’s major yikes. Moving LHD would make much better sense as we seem to have a ton of those, we have very few RHD who would I even be considered NHL level prospects.

As for Foudy, he’ll be a Cerilli type 2nd line center. Just give him a season or even half a season. Speaking of Cerilli I’d rather offersheet him as Tampa can’t afford him next season. That’s only a 1st and a 3rd for a 2nd line center. So we get to keep what few NHL level prospects we have.
