JVR's contract was a a big overpay at the time and doesn't look any better now.

You simply can't pay 50 point 3rd line players 7M in the salary cap era.

Depends what you mean by "big overpay". I would say he's worth 5.5 mill. I think analytics shows he's been really good at 5vs5 in terms of playing driving and shot surpression this season.

I saw a trade that actually made some sense. JVR for Kessel. Both overpaid, production is down, and could probably use a change of scenery

That doesn't make sense for Philly, doesn't clear any cap. They could get a better return if they just want to give away JVR, something like a late 1st and a B prospect. Even better return if they retain

I dont think anyone will take JVR though. hes a cap dump at this point. they aren't getting a first and a prospect unless they retained a significant amount

Red Wings and other teams that need middle 6 depth and to hit the cap floor absolutely would. Don't forget another 23 roster spots are opening in Seattle and teams will be losing depth in the near future. Even teams like Florida or Arizona, if they can't resign their UFAs, would probably take him for picks. He's overpaid by maybe a million and his production hasn't dropped a ton, he's still a consistent 50+ point guy in the right situation

does he have a NTC? because the teams interested in him may not be on his list

Philly would be lucky to give him away for free with that contract. Maybe they get a 1st and a prospect if they retain like 3M.

Agreed. I think I'd want the Flyers to take a bad contract back or give a 1st if they wanted me to take him.

Not a lot of teams have 7M in cap space just lying around.

They only need one team with 7M lying around, and more than that do. You really think they have to pay to get rid of him? His contract is fine. Just a horrific take when players like Hayes are making 7+ in free agency, he's worth his deal to the right team

He's over paid by a lot more than 1M. I'd say 2M.

He's a 50 point player but he's also a defensive liability. (takes a lot for a Leafs fan to say that)

Considering people don't even want Marner cause he's overpaid by 1M. I doubt there's much of a market for a much lower tier winger overpaid by more.

I mean I'd take him as Ottawa but only if the Flyers took Zaitsev back.

Again, why would Philadelphia do that ?? A team like Detroit would happily take him in exchange for picks with actual value

Go ask Detroit fans. I highly doubt they'd take him unless you send picks with him.

Hayes was on pace fo 63 points when he signed his extension and is 3 years younger than JVR and better in the defensive zone. Plus his contract is as much of a bargain as Mitch Marner's.

The only teams with the cap space to take him are rebuilding and don’t WANT a 31yo middle six, 50-pt winger signed at 7mil for the next 3 years.

Why are you comparing a 70 point player to a 50 point player?

In order to get the same money per point he'd have to get 9.8M. Lets see if he gets that...

Colorado could take him for a 2nd, same with the Kings who are about ready to start competing again

Colorado has raises for Landeskog, Makar, and Kadri to give out in the next 2 years. If they wanted similar production they’d trade for Johnsson or Kapanen for half the cap hit, lower draft pick than you’re asking for, and younger. The last thing the Kings are trying to do is bring in another old, slow guy to take up a roster spot and valuable minutes one of their kids could have used.

If jVR has one less year on his deal I’d consider trading for him.

JVR was our best 5vs5 defender this year, best xGA.....
