Trade with Rangers - Read Description

Description
Hey Flames fans, should you lose to Dallas, I have heard rumblings of potentially blowing the team up. Is that accurate from what you want or hear as well? Aside from 1OA, Kakko, Zbad, and Shesty, what would you need from the Rangers to trade Monahan? I added some cost controlled pieces to start the conversation, but I’m curious to hear what you would want.

Really? As a die hard ranger fan, I would pay a lot for monahan.

That deal seems pretty lopsided in CGY's favour IMO. I see Monahan as a high-end 2C. Giving up a good young 3C, a 1st round pick, and a recent top-10 pick in Kravtsov seems like a lot.

Yeah I’m not a fan of this trade either and you wanna send more to Calgary. NO THANKS! They can keep Monohan. We need to ensure we have young guys that are cost controlled to replace guys in our lineup when we have to pay our big guns. This is the opposite of that.

lots of cap space and available moves that can clear more for the right player.

I think it would take this much for Calgary to move him. IDK who else has the assets to do this. Might be an over pay. I'm not huge on Fil, but l'd at least want to give him a few more years.

Even if they loose i highly doubt hes moved. None of those pieces are good enough replacements. But on a serious note they would want Lundkvist before Kravtsov

Lots of space before they sign their free agents. But theyll be forced to move one after, why not make them a part of this trade

I think chytil is destined for the wing, I know he’s young and can get better, but a 1-2 punch of zbad and monahan(who is a good faceoff man) could put us over the top. Plus monahan has a few years left on his deal if I’m not mistaken.

Im not the biggest fan of Chytil, but hes got 2 years left of cost controlled salary. If he can show an improvement at faceoffs, get up to 45% on the draw, and improve defensively Id be very happy.

Strome’s rights would be traded, and then you would need minor moves.

I agree. I'd rather move DeAngelo or Buch, or both, than Chytil.

Obv as a ranger fan we would. But you got to give to get. I’ve been done with buch for 2 years. This is just one move, then we make other moves to bring in a shutdown LHD.

Same page.

I think our posts are similar in that we're not being shy of getting rid of assets, or "overpaying". I went with keeping Strome and bringing in more consistency to the top line as to make matchups/shutdown attempts more difficult while the kids are cooking. In favor of not impulse buying a center.

Ive posted stuff where we get Cirelli and Palat from TB to solidify our C spot and get a fairly consistent veteran and locker room guy for the RW in place of Buch.

why do you think that? Monahan has been in the league for 7 seasons and he's 25. He's never scored less than 20 goals. At what point will Chytil eclipse that? He's got a lot of work to do to even catch up. This makes no sense. Chytil, at best, can grow into a contributor the likes of Monahan. If you're expecting him to be better than that then you're going to need to better manage your expectations.

It wasnt until Martin St. Louis 5th year in the league that he scored 70 points, prior to that his high was 40. This is a common story in the sport of hockey, rarely are things so perfectly linear.

Agreed. Those things do happen in hockey. However, I still think you're too high on Chytil. I've watched pretty much every game of his and it just doesn't seem like he has the presence of mind to be as important as Monahan. Granted, I'm not diving deep into analytics or anything. It's important to remember that for every Martin St. Louis there are thousands of 1st rounders that never turned into anything. I'll be glad if he's eventually tuned his abilities enough to be as impactful as Blake Coleman.
