RW depth for RD depth

Created by: Terry_AkiSauce
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2020
Published: Aug. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Nylander trade can be for your favourite RD in any of the 1 for 1s we've all been seeing. Don't know if Lou would go for this swap but I think Pulock would be a great fit in TO.

Not sure if Florida would be willing to take on that much cap so swap Holl for picks to reach Weegars value and move Holl for picks/prospects

Wingers are easier to acquire than good dmen and its time the Leafs realized this. Grabbing a top 6 winger at the trade deadline is better than trying to find a top 4 dman, look at Toffoli heading to Vacouver for example.

Keep Freddy for one more year before deciding to re-sign or not, hes been our MVP year in, year out and itd be stupid to trade him.

You should never sign a non-all star level player to more than 6 years. You also overpaid him by about 1 mill

    Also Nylander>>>>Pulock
The Isles should add Ho Sang and a pick to make it fair

Nylander isn't an allstar either, they're both about equal in value. Pulock a top pairing dman (not a #1 though) for Nylander, a top line winger (not the best player on the line though)

Pulock is great, but hes a tier below Nylander. When was the last time you saw an 8 year deal given to a non all star player work out?

Pulock is a legit #1RHD, and why would a 24 year old AHLer be the deal breaker? This aint 2017 anymore

If im the Isles I say no to this tbh

Sorry friend but that is pretty equal value. Pulock will get his $7M next year. But it’s a moot point, Isle would never accept that trade.

And Ho Sang is KHL bound. Him and Dal Colle are busts.

Its pretty close, I think Isles might do it if they feel the younger dmen are ready

Value wise its pretty close but I just dont see the isles trading their #1 dman. Theyd def move Mayfield or Boychuk to make space for Dobson before even thinking about moving him

I think this trade is more accurate if the Isles lose round 1 or played bad in the restart but they've looked good

Personally I'd rather see them trade Eberle and dump his contract to go after one of the potential UFAs Hoffman or Toffoli who can do his job but better. Than to lose Pulock for Nylander.

You took our insane RW depth and now we don't have any. That is a mistake. I don't like the Nylander trade. He's too good and too versatile to move unless it's a dream scenario which this is not. Move Kapanen for a RD because he's overvalued and we would not miss him at all. The roster needs a tweak not an overhaul.

I mean the RW position is still better than a lot of teams and when did a team ever win a cup cause of their RW depth? Avs, Blues, Bruins have none to speak of, all have 1 good RWer then just pretty average guys down the line. Defense wins championship, Leafs have one of the best top 4s in the league here

The defence isn't nearly as big a problem as people think. It does need more depth but Lehtonen, Dermott and Sandin could all be internal upgrades that I think should be looked at first

Isles say no. Would much rather have Pulock than Nylander. If you want to do something around Mayfield for Kapanen, I'd be enticed.

Mayfield is only a product of the Isles system, he'd be trash in TO

Lol he's not a product of the Isles system but you're definitely right that he'd be trash in TO like everyone else there.

Toffoli is absolutely not better than Eberle, and if they planned on just 'dumping' their first line RW why the hell would they have signed him to a 5 year extension last year lmao

Because there was nobody better outside of Panarin at the time. Last years UFA period was pretty weak. I get you like Eberle but the fact is he's lazy, he won't go in to the corners to fight for a puck he instead waits out in the slot for someone else to get it for him. Even Barzal who's smaller goes in to the corners to fight for the puck. Eberle has zero goal scoring instincts I've rarely seen him take a one time a shot. His game usually consists of him holding on to the puck and trying to make the perfect shot which rarely works out for him because he either fires it wide anyways or fires it directly in to the goaltender because he held it too long giving the goalie the chance to move in to position. Eberle is only a first line winger because on a team like the Islanders they have no other option. If he was on any other team in the league he'd be a 2nd line winger at best and in my opinion Lou overpaid him by about 2 million but they needed a winger because there was no others available at the time. It was either re-sign him or let him walk and take a gamble that one of the limited UFA's would step in and do just as well. Like I said you like him cool nothing against that. I personally don't and think there's better options.
