Ya they are. A 3rd and a 4th is actually better odds of a player playing more than 99 games in the NHL than a 2nd so consider the package as a 40-50ish pick in the draft. Beyond that, lets face it, the Leafs need money and they have too many bottom pairing LHD. If Dermott cant switch to right side (hasnt been able to for 2 coaches and 2 GMs now) hes very likely an asset that will be forced to be moved to fit this upcoming years cap crunch as well as cover any changes Dubas wants to make. If Johnsson is the most likely Leaf to be moved this offseason, Dermott is a close #2.

The issue is that its a 2022 3rd. If you are going to get Dermott, you need something a bit sooner or pay a premium price.

Dermott literally has played on the right side and was good, he'll likely be Lehtonens partner this season. A 3rd and 4th is a trash offer

Dermott has played on the right side and has been bad enough that they've shopped outside and played Cody Cedi over him. He hasnt had any staying power there despite both a desperate need as well as coaching and GM changes. Hes not Lehtonen's partner this season, you are in fantasy land. Hes not even a Leaf this season.

Yeah, because some team will pay more than a 3rd and a 4th for him

More than a 3rd and 4th you are basically talking a 1st round pick. Dermott isnt going to get that.

In what hopped up world is the jump from a 3rd and a 4th right to a 1st round pick?

Well like I said earlier, the overall odds of 2 players drafted with a 3rd and 4th round pick playing 99 games or more in the nhl is greater than a 2nd round pick. A 3rd and 4th is essentially a very high 2nd rounder. If you want more than that you are asking for a 1st round pick or the equivalent value of that.

Except odds dont = value. Teams throw 3rd and 4th rounders around like candy on Halloween and the market basically has them at a minimum value.

No to Puljujarvi, and I doubt Johnson waives to come to Buffalo. I like the Boone Jenner deal, but I doubt Columbus does. And I would do the Toronto deal, but would they?
