The whole premise of this is simply wrong.
A. They don't "need" to trade a goalie. They can make it work, there are multiple ACGM on here where people have shown how.
B. They can get someone at 15OA that can help now. Hell some of the best skaters in the draft this year are RW. Mercer, Jarvis. These are not players who need more time.
These horribly old ways of looking at things are simply archaic. The penguins lost to a team that played a guy in his draft year +1. TOR lost to a team who played a guy in his draft year +1.
It's becoming more and more common for teams to play their youth sooner. The thing that holds youth back are two things. Their skating, and their size.
It is an increasing trend in the NHL to play these guys younger.
The penguins realize this, which is why they are already saying they need to get younger. Developing guys for 3 years is an old way of doing things. That's what you do for lower draft picks. But 1 year and in is the new model. Some guys don't even need to wait that long, and teams are starting to be honest about it.
