Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2020
Published: Aug. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Penguins take Jarvis at RW with their pick. He's NHL ready. One of the best skaters in the draft. Has a really good shot. He could be the guy on the wall in the PP.
Schneider with CHI pick. Big mean, likes to hit, and jumps into the rush. He'll be a the best defense man on the board. The penguins will sign him knowing the will need him as he develops.

1.
PIT
  1. 2020 5th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
SJS confirmed they are interested in Jugs for a late round pick. The penguins are ok with this return.
2.
PIT
  1. 2020 1st round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Chicago will make this move when the best goalie in the draft is taken off the board before they pick.
The penguins will get a 1st for Murray. They aren't pressed to trade him, they got plenty of cap space.
CHI
  1. Murray, Matt [RFA Rights]
3.
PIT
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Riikola deserves better than what he got in Pittsburgh. Sat behind JJ was a joke. I can't see him or the penguins pretending he should want to be here next season. WPG gets a decent defense man for next to nothing.
WPG
  1. Riikola, Juuso [RFA Rights]
4.
PIT
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Just good enough to leave you infuriated that he missed a wide open net. But always manages to play hard and get the puck and keep it. He will get a 2nd chance somewhere because he's strong on the puck and teams like that.

welcome to coach sullivan and GMJR world.
I can't blame GMJR that much, he tried to trade him last year, Kessel ruined that. It will be almost impossible to trade him this year. He has to be buried in the AHL.

Hawks aren't giving you 17th OA for Murray. Especially after the year he just had. I would rather just resign Crow for cheaper than Murray would cost anyways

Clearly they want to stick with Hayden, Rooney on the RW. Especially when they trade Palmier by TDL....

Maybe. He should cost less than Murray. We could probably sign both Jarry and a guy like Crow. The UFA's available are VERY good in their on right though. I would prefer to sign ANY UFA vs trading for a goalie this offseason. It's a deep draft.

yeah because trading away draft picks for 26 year old depth players is a great way to accelerate your rebuild.

Fair enough. the only UFA's I like are Lehner and Markstrom, and the bridge has kinda been turned with Lehner. If we got Markstrom I would be happy. Don't want Holtby. Talbot/khudobin/Greis and Crow could be a solid pair but probably too expensive.

your first line LW was drafted in the 3rd round, what's your point? a bottom 10 team with an average farm system is looking to acquire mid round picks, not give them away for depth.

This is the kind of nonsense which is why I don't bother much with the chicago comments on here.
Markstrom will resgin. Lehner will cost an arm and a leg somewhere and there are many teams competing for him. Considering you traded him out, I don't think he's coming back.

Facts are CHI is in the goalie market because Crow is 36 next year, probably wants some kind of term, and the pressing reality that Seattle coming into the league will make goalies even thinner next year.
Murray is 26, talented, and has a lot of hockey in him. With the number of teams looking for goalie help it's going to drive the price up.
You have to give to get. Chicago still wants a window. Getting a talented younger goalie that will come on a reasonable contract helps make that possible. If you can't figure that out good luck to you.

yeah you also need to be able to field a team, and you don't really have any RW. You'll be picking one up this off season. The question is do you want to pay millions for a guy while rebuilding, or have a guy on the cheap on a 2 year deal who can fill a role as the team rebuilds.
I'm pretty sure your chance of bringing someone of quality in while you are trading out all your good players on the last year of their deals probably isn't high.

I don't think you're properly evaluating the goalie market. There are likely ~2 MORE teams trying to trade away goalies than there are teams looking to get a starting goalie. That doesn't even factor in the 6ish UFAs out there.

The flat cap all be eliminates a lot of possibilities. Teams like SJS can't take on the additional cap for a starter in addition to Jones. Vegas also needs to figure out what they're doing with MAF.

first of all, Murray is not worth a 1st round pick, let alone 17th OA. Second of all, I would like to hear your list of teams that are in the goalie market, because I can think of maybe 4. Chicago, Carolina, Ottawa, and Detroit is what I can come up with and you can make an argument for any one of those teams sticking with what they have. You can argue San Jose as well, but they would never be bale to get a guy like Murray considering what they already pay Jones. Moving on... Just because its convienient for the pens to get this kind of value for Murray, the reality is it's not there. Limited teams looking for goalies combined with 5 or 6 good UFA's you can get WITHOUT GIVING IP 17TH OA, and also more guys on the trade market who could be had for cheaper (Georgiev). Why would the hawks give 17th OA for Murray and have to pay him 5mil per year when we can sign Crow for 3-4 mil. Crow had a .917 save % during the season behind a bad defense and led the league in high danger save %. Murray had a .898 save % behind a bad (but better than Chicago) defense and was near the bottom in high danger save %. High danger save % is a very important stat IMO when talking teams like the hawks or pens who don't play great defense. No I don't think crow is the long term answer but why do we have to solve goaltending for the next 10 years right now. Like you said we still have a window. As a hawks fan I'll admit that window is short/ possibly not even there. statistically Crow was the better goalie last year and he will be cheaper. My preferred target is Markstrom. If he re signs with VAN, then it is much better for the hawks to roll with crow and try to bring in a Talbot/Greiss/Khudobin to go 1A/1B with him. Hawks are not forced to make a move for a young goalie at all. I have a feeling pens fans are going to be very upset by the return they get on Murray if he is traded.

You think Riikola would do any better in Winnipeg? We have Paul Maurice as a coach! Unless Riikola likes the press box and popcorn I wouldn’t bother
