Looking into the future

Created by: JordanCGrant
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 18, 2020
Published: Aug. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Give up a kings ransom in expansion draft for Seabs who wants to play every night, but hasn't been put as the team's 7th defender. Sign Saad for short term at same salary and look to resign him at higher value based on cap movement if he produces. Georgiev and Crawford would be signed and traded for respectively in the year prior to this one. Use cap space to get a good mid tier free agent signing like a Danualt or Gallagher.

With guys like DeHaan/Shaw/Seabs on this team...I hate to say it, but one of them will got LTIR. It's not what I want for anyone, but the odds weigh heavily toward at least one of them.

***EDIT*** You can buyout Maatta for less if you do it this offseason. $681k i believe.

Seattle would be morons to accept that Seabrook cap dump.
The #1 advantage for a new expansion team is a clean slate, no bad contracts or cap anchors, why would the agree to give themselves one lol

I would agree, but truthfully i am not sure if anyone would trade for Shaw or De Haan with the injury history. Not sure if Murphy even makes it to this year as Bowman could use him to bolster the forward depth and let the young kids on the blueline have a spot

Easy. Especially if you turn that 2nd rounder in a 1st rounder you do what Vegas did which squeeze cap crunch teams take on someone who can play a roll (Seabs provides leadership and experience to a new team) get a high prospect who could be a top 4 defender and a high draft pick. We just watched this only a few years ago happen. I mean they said the samething about Reilly Smith and his 5.5 million deal after a few down years.

Thats not necessarily true, Vegas got William Karlsson for taking on David Clarksons contract and he was a major piece for them. There are definitely incentives to taking on bloated contracts. The term between Seabs and clarksons contracts is a different story though and CHI would have to give up more to move Seabs, realistically its never going to happen.

W. Karlsson >> Beaudin (and he was NHL full time ready)
Plus you cant compare Seabrooks cap vs Clarksons cap because Clarkson was on IR and it didnt count against the cap lol XD

We agree on everything but to saying theres no upside to taking bad contracts on is wrong. Its why i brought up the karlsson trade because its a good example of getting a great piece that can play now, beaudin is not that.

My dude, you arent being logical.

Seattle as a brand new franchise, isnt taking on 3 x 7mil on Seabrook who would be about 37 by that time.
Not if they cant 100% lose it on IR with 100% certainty. Not if Beaudin and a 2nd is the return.
It cost TOR a 1st to get rid of one year of Marleau at 6 mil, buy that evulation, it would cost you 3 1sts plus you retain 1 mil on Seabrook, deal?

My guy I am NOT defending this trade I AGREE that they will never ever do this. The only point I'm making is there is incentive to take bad contracts. I.E. Karlsson. Nobody let alone Seattle will take Seabs. Chicago is 100% stuck with him.
