That would be awfully risky but interesting for sure.

I would entertain Bear for Nylander, but not for anything else. Not necessarily as a one-for-one. Quality matters here.

Andersen can just leave in a year and Kapanen is good, but bottom 6 good. EDM needs to develop their young D

You'd figure with nearly 16,000 posts you might be able to read them instead of just stringing them along.

I explicitly state that it wouldn't be a one-for-one deal.

Bear is also apt to sign a deal cheaper than Holl, but be capable of playing in the top four. Do you think teams should just line up to gift the Maple Leafs what they want?

Bear is overvalued by Oilers fans. He's basically a RD Travis Dermott & nothing more.

You suggested Bear starts with Nylander. That is ridiculous the other things necessary to make that remotely fair are huge.

Well since you were one of the few with a constructive comment... maybe the only one lol...,

My line of thought was Andersen at 2.5m is a steal and Kapanen up with mcdavid would fun to watch. Not many people in the nhl that can touch their speed. Still leaves you with Larsson Bouchard and benning on rd.

Value wise I thought it might be a bit of an overpay, which it would need to be to try and get a player they aren’t looking to move.

Bear had a good season and an iffy play in round. Can certainly see why you would want to hold on to him and see how he develops.

Kappy is a low end first liner or a high end second liner based on production. In Toronto he is pushed back by nylander and marner but still produces at a high rate for a 2nd liner. In Edmonton it would be a no brainer to match him up with mcdavid. Yes I know anyone can play with mcdavid but kappy can actually skate with him.

The idea was to give you a goalie at a great price. If he performs well re sign him, if not.... he still played better than 2.5m.

I feel the same way. I really do think it’s tome Dermott got some recognition and a bigger role. But you know, it’s cap friendly. You put Dermott at 1RD and everyone is like “ThAt DeFeNcE tHoUgH...”

It would be pretty folish to reject this. Plus with their pick in the top 15 they can easily replace bear in the draft. They can draft a player like Braden Schneider who can crack the lineup in a year or two. They got Bouchard who looks ready and can potentially replace bear and cost much less. In addition, the oilers get a fast wing to pair with Mcdavid and a better goaltender who can play more games. Sure they lose a young RHD but with their draft pick and assets coming back it works.

I mean a dcore of

Klefbolm-Larsson
Nurse-Bouchard
Jones-Russel/Benning

If Im the oilers I would just take a run at Lehnor or Holtby for my goalie instead of paying for one year of Andersen.

Either one of them going to sign for 2.5m? Holtby will be 31 when the next season starts, is that a long term option? Lehner would be great if you could get him to sign for 4-5 years, but that will be a 6m deal at least in my opinion. Then you would need to move Koskinen. And find a backup.

That's exactly what you do. Make cap space to fill a huge hole. Why give up a promising young Dman for a one year audition of Andersen?

That’s why Kapanen is involved. Would be lob sided in term otherwise. With Larsson Bouchard and benning. Thought it would be worth a try.
