That’s a gruesome overpayment. Monahan just isn’t worth that.

apparently u dont know monahan that well, he has 7 straight 20 goal seasons & 3 30 goal seasons, iv asked sabres fans & theyv said Mittelstadt is worth nothing, there is no guarantee that pick will b as good as monahan, & risto is risto

I don’t care. Mittelstadt may or may not have a spot on this team, but his development has just restarted. He is not worth nothing, those “fans“ don’t know ****. Monahan is a good player, probably a perennial 50 pt man for the next 4 years. If the top 10 draft pick in a very deep draft year is not enough I don’t want him.

Risto with a good defensive guy on his line he would be a golden player to have. And there isn't a such thing as a negative value 21 year old ELC player who has stumbled a little bit... But he will be fine.

They absolutely are. Risto can't play D, has very limited upside outside the top-6, and is honestly a cap-dump. Mittlestadt could probably be had for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. The 8th pick is nice, but it would depend on how the draft order shakes out. Lundell or Quinn wouldn't be the most interesting of returns.

The ever incorrect idea that Risto is a cap dump never ceases to amaze and perplex me. I guess 40 pt a year Offensive dman are cap dumps nowadays. This is such a tired argument. I don’t think he’s worth 2 1sts or anything like that but to say he has negative value is absolutely absurd.

Only the ones that give up significantly more than they generate.
