Larsson, Kharia & 2021 6th: IN
- Like Tyson Barrie of last year, Adam Larsson will be nothing more than a 1 year rental as a top RHD. But unlike Tyson Barrie of last year, Adam Larsson is more of a defensive defencemen. He will compliment the likes of Reilly & Muzzin, and if TOR decides to shed off more cap next off season, he will not command a huge extension. Jujhar Kharia essentially serves as a younger, more versatile Kyle Clifford that the Leafs will lose to FA. Good penalty killer, (part of the best PK in the league) and will primarily serve as a 4th line LW or C.
Engvall, Kivihalme & 2021 2nd: OUT
- Engvall is a player that can fit perfectly in EDM's bottom 6, but also will be challenged by up coming LW's like Benson. Also replaces Kharia perfectly as a C/LW flex player. Kivihalme serves essentially 2 purposes. One being AHL depth as Bakersfield finished bottom 3 in the league, but also another finnish player in the organization for Puljuarvi (who presumably is coming back)
Lablanc, Dahlen & 2020 2nd: IN
- Kevin Lablanc is a good player stuck on a bad team last season, his agent will likely ask for a longer term deal, and I feel him and Mikheyev can make matching 6 year deals shuffling around in the middle 6. Dahlen is a player who seems to not want to leave Sweden, been apart of 3 organizations already, TOR will likely let him play out 20/21 in Sweden and re negotiate next off season.
Andersen & 2020 7th: OUT
- After a poor season to his standards this year, it is unlikely that TOR will want to lock up Andersen long term next year. I believe TOR will switch over to a 3 goalie model (see other trades) and let Andersen ride out a hopefully bounce back year for SJS.
Jokiharju, Okposo (50% retained) & 8th OVR: IN
- Toronto hits big here as they sell high on Nylander on a career year, but he ends up becoming a cap casualty unforunatley. TOR can likely land one of Lundell / Holtz / Rossi at 8 and could not only being fantastic, but make one of Marner, Matthews or Tavares expendable in the future. Jokiharju also ends up making Larsson expendable for next year, and as well he can be a stable top 4 piece of the future. Okposo as well goes back in this deal. He has experience with Tavares in NYI, but also being a bottom power forward in BUF, makes him versitaile, but also easily buryable in the AHL as TOR likes to have the Marlies to be a strong team.
Nylander & 2 2020 2nds: OUT
- After a great season, Nylander ends up becoming an unfortunate cap casualty. This not only allows Dubas to sell high, but take back a 50% retained contract in Okposo who has known chemistry with Tavares, but also only making 3 mil he can be bought out or buried in the AHL.
Stalock & 2020 4th: IN
- I believe TOR should run with a 3 goalie layout. Stalock outplayed Dubynk this year and has potential to outplay both Campbell & Georgiev (check other trades). I'd have Stalock starting in the AHL due to his 2 way deal, but I'd 100% expect him to play NHL games this year.
Abramov & 2020 6th: OUT
- Abramov is essentially a roster player being moved the other way, as well another russian in the system for MIN to impress Kaprizov.
Georgiev: IN
- I believe NYR decides to do the right thing and ride out Lundqvist on the last year of his deal even if it happens to be backing up Shesterkin. Georgiev will slot in a 1A, 1B role with Jack Campbell and will take on 40-50+ games likely. Georgiev as well went down with injury last year with NYR, in case he does this again, Stalock would play in some games.
Dermott: OUT
- With the recent acquisitions of Larsson & Jokiharju. Emergence of Sandin & Liljegren, and recent signing of Lehtonen, this makes Dermott expendable. I don't think leafs management expected Sandin to rise up the rankings this fast, and having both the left and right side filled out, Dermott could be on his way out. He could easily work his way up in the rankings on a weak left side in NYR.
Durzi, 2nd & 3rd: IN
- The leafs gain a 2nd round pick in this years draft and regain 2 former assets in RHD Sean Durzi & 2021 3rd. Kapanen unforunatley becomes another cap casualty. After a somewhat poor season, TOR doesn't sell as high as they did with Nylander, but still get assets none the less and restock draft picks.
Kapanen, 4th & 5th: OUT
- On a weak LAK team, Kapanen comes in along side LA's 2nd overall pick and possibly new FA targets as they try to steer this rebuild around.
I like the amount of effort and thought that went into this.
Some trades while in theory would work,.won't work for real.
What really makes this roster hard to believe is who you have sitting in the press box.
Barbanov and Lethonen didn't sign a contract to come overs see for tickets to a Leafs game. They game to play.
I doubt Buffalo is even looking at trading Okposo, so there is no reason to over pay someone to take him, never mind retaining half his salary for three years.
