Cap Space 2 sign Barzy and D-Men

Created by: IslesGuy23

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 23, 2020

Description
These trades are in a perfect world but I think Lou could come up with similar trades to drop Leddy and Hickey to be able to sign the big RFAs. It does require Ladd to have the decency to get a long term injury to go on LTIR for the good of the team. LOL

We’re not signing barzal to a contract that walks him to UFA. He’ll either get a 3 or 6 year deal.

From an outsiders perspective, I don't see how Barzal gets anything less than Marner/Matthews money. He's so good and one of the top 5 most entertaining players to watch. No doubt his agent will have a tough battle with Lou, but his numbers and the teams success with him as a leader once Tavares left is undeniable.

My guess is either a 5 year deal at $9-10M or 8 years at around $11. The guy is filthy

Barzal's knows the flat cap will be a major detractor to that type of deal. Like most big name free agents and RFAs they will be smart to take bridge deals with teams they are currently with to wait until cap goes up in 3 or 4 years.

I did not think about that. I will edit that thank you.

His numbers declined once trotz arrived, but that’s because he has to play a two way game. He’ll get 9 mill if he signs for 5 years, but with the flat cap it’s more likely he signs a 3 year bridge @ 7-7.5 mill per.

Reasonable deal for Leddy. I think the Jets would be interested.

Thank you. The major lynch pin to this setup is if Ladd has the decency to get a long term injury.

I think it'll be slightly less than that on a three year deal. Between $6.5MM and $7MM. Brayden Point was in a similar situation with TB last year and only got $6.75MM coming off of a 40 goal season.
