LOL exactly what Toronto is lacking.
Bennett is what they are lacking... For CGY the return of a 70 pt Gaudreau is probably not a 70 pt player, so its addressing spots up and down lineup and an upgrade in goal.....then TOR can deal 1 of Marner/Nylander/Gaudreau for a good top 4 RD and more
theoretically Gaudreau replaces say Marner on the top line, and Bennett takes kerfoots spot on 3rd line. Then say Marner is dealt for pesce, prospect Suzuki, jake bean and more, still leaving plenty of cap space for a No 1 goalie. Toronto stays an offensive force in their top 6, taking a loss on the 3rd line, but improving their defense and getting a longer term goalie.
Its not perfect for TOR, but its an idea. For CGY, they lose Gaudreau, Bennett and Lucic, but receive Kerfoot, JVR, NAK, Andersen and Bunnamon, (and easy re-signs of RFAs next year as Grant, Andersen, and Rittich come off cap. Maybe the re-signs of Hamonic, Jankowski are too much, but it shows cap flexibility for a 21 skater club, with a solid defense and forward corps
