Hard pass from Carolina. Bean has better upside, is better now. Carolina will not add to bean for Mittelstadt, although i like the idea of the trade, you've got the wrong side adding. Something like Mittelstadt and a 3rd for Bean outright is far closer to fair value

Except Bean does not have better upside. He was drafted a year earlier than Mittelstadt and has played a grand total of 2 NHL games to Mittelstadt's 114. He also plays LHD vs Center, so even if they were equals, center has more value. if he had so much to offer you wouldn't have signed gardiner for a 4 year deal and traded for edmundson behind Slavin

We signed Gardiner to replace Faulk and took Edmundson as a cap dump in the Faulk trade. Bean was just AHL D man OTY. Bean right now has far more value than Mittelstadt, who has 114 NHL games, and still doesn't look an NHL player. Bean looks like an NHL player who just doesn't have the space to make the break through. Bean has more value because he is better. D men take longer to develop, and it's understandable he needed more time.

that award means nothing. zach redmond won that the year before on an AHL contract and is now playing in europe. bean had zero NHL games this year.

Carolina have 9 NHL calibre D men not including Bean. That is not on bean, stop trying to act like the fact he didn't make the NHL this year because Carolina had the deepest blueline in the NHL is his fault.

bad take.
Carolina's log jam doesn't make Bean any less of a player.
Buffalo's lack of a log jam does make Mitts less of a player.

carolina created the log jam. if they had faith in him they wouldn't make all the moves they did on defense year after year.

Cool story, we’ll just keep him instead of giving him away for a bust

The guy with 2 NHL games 4 years after being drafted 13th overall is just as much a bust as the guy drafted 8th overall 3 years ago who struggled to stick in the NHL

I do enjoy people that want to trade for someone but then tears them down to justify why they are trading table scraps for them.

It is possible to like the player and also believe the player isn't ready at the moment.

yeah, the GM in Carolina really created a BAD situation for themselves having one of, if not the, best D corps in the league with incredible flexibility.
meanwhile in buffalo...crickets.
