I mean, in that example we also considered CGY's 1st as dog****....so there's that...

Literally every piece Calgary gives up is better individually than one of the pieces they get, except the goalie swap which is even. Why do people think teams will just give Toronto everything

Detroit declines. We need the futures more than that haul. Also, neither asset really fills a need, even Rittich, which fills a need, isn't enticing enough to part with draft picks.

how is that bad for TO? I'd take JG all day over Nylander. you'd basically have 2 marners on the team.

I am skeptical if Calgary would even accept... Freedie is a BIG upgrade on Rittich... lets not kid ourselves. My thought process is that you basically inject a 2nd/3rd line into the CGY line up and shore up the goalie position. Then you can extend Freddie... Rittich isnt the answer long term there.

Kapanen is better than Bennett.
Gaudreau is better than Willy
Kerfoot is better than Jankowski... I'm open to hearin mmore here because im less familiar with Jankowski
Andersen is a big upgrade and a great goalie... but in Toronto time has just run out and its not his fault. He is going to need a new contract and more money - Toronto doesn't have it

Gaudreau>Nylander
Rittich=Andersen (age/contract make up for Andersen being better, this is a one for one swap I’ve seen frequently and it’s not bad imo)
1st>Kerfoot
Janko>4th (probably, he’s fallen out of favour a bit and has a 1.75mil QO but he’s still young and a decent 4th liner, good on the PK, still has 3rd line upside just probably not in Calgary. I could see Calgary trying to shop him for a 3rd)
The only one I’ll give you is Kapanen might be better than Bennett but Bennett goes beast mode in playoffs and is cheaper, and can actually fill in in the top 6 in a pinch, unlike Kapanen who looked out of place anywhere but 3RW. Kapanen probably takes the edge but it’s not that far off imo, I’d rather keep Bennett and see if that line with Lucic and Dube can keep momentum and make an impact in the regular season since we’re stuck with Lucic and that line made him look like an actual contributor again for the first time in four years.

If you are going to use age and length of contracts in one analysis you need to do it for all.

Nylander>Gaudreau because he has two more years
Kapanen> Bennet because he has 1 more year
Kerfoot > Jankowski flat out
Andersen is apparently not a better goalie when your logic is applied

He’s the better goalie but he costs more, is a UFA in a year and will cost more to resign. Rittich is a solid platoon goalie who can start 50 games if need be, him and Campbell could be decent and it saves Toronto over 2mil which is why it would work for them. It wouldn’t work in another scenario but it might be a decent option for Toronto. Gaudreau is a significantly more talented player than Nylander who drives his own line so he didn’t get carried by a guy like Matthews or Tavares, and is somehow signed for cheaper. Years don’t matter for RFAs. Yeah Kerfoot is better than Janko but you’re completely ignoring the first and fourth here...

Clearly you haven't seen Nylander when he drives his line for the sweds. Just because a guy plays with other extremely talented players don't not mean he needs them to be successful. I don't care about the picks I was basing your logic against the players alone and it's flat out wrong. I'm not saying I agree the trade is fair but I am saying your evaluation is skewed.
