Preds 20-21

Created by: Johansenm34
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 24, 2020
Published: Aug. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a reasonable offseason for the preds. I’m not sure if VAN does that trade/what it would take to make that work.
The preds would still have 6 mil in cap space do do something else in the market if they wanted.

Seems reasonable sure.
I’m sure it’s hard to look at his cap hit on your roster, but why not just wait to buyout Turris. In this scenario you can fit him in no problemo. Maybe buy him out next year or try again to trade him. If he’s not gonna play for you anyways, might as well retain him for 2 or 3 million on a trade to cut those buyout years in half. 8 years is a millennium in salary cap land.
Look at the UFA centres this offseason for example. Very sparse. I’m sure a team would take Turris for the next four years at a 3 million cap hit. Or maybe next year.. 3 more years at 4 million cap hit

You make a good point about keeping Turris but...

Preds are rich at center. Im thinking if they cant get a trade for Turris, buy him out and try to sign a winger, thats proven to score 20-30 goals, to pair with Duchene and take the pressure off of their younger players to score a bunch of goals as rookies.

Yeah at first I missed in your description about using the cap space to sign someone, I just saw buying out Turris and not using the cap. So who would you go after? Obvi with your teams cap situations, I imagine you wouldn’t want to turn around and handcuff your team again.

I still think maybe keep Turris at 3C, play Tomasino on his wing while he adjusts to the NHL and maybe he can be your scoring addition. Tomasino is just so small still, and this whole team lacks size down the middle..
Plus you traded for Virtanen. He could be good for 20 goals if he gels well

Yeah i see people talking about Mike Hoffman, but hes gonna take up 5-6 Mil of the cap. I do agree preds need to get bigger, maybe we use the cap to get a 1. Dustin Byfuglien or 2. brendan dillion type defensemen to give us some size and grit on the back end.

VAN decline, they don't need another 3rd line center and also they are trying to shed cap space.
