Krug and Markstom to Detroit - Not much else

Created by: rdryan33
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 24, 2020
Published: Aug. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the clamoring to sign Krug in Detroit, I did just that. Now, the cap hit he's at ($8mil) is the high side of what people expect he'll bring in, and that's at 5 years (the max Yzerman may touch, IMO).

Even with that type of cap hit, it still leaves Detroit plenty of room to throw $6mil/3yrs at Markstrom (EDITED to higher cap) to take over with Bernier until has deal expires.

Outside that, I go off an assumption that Mantha and Bert take "team friendly deals" and Fabbri signs a 2 yr "show me" deal.

The rest of the FWD group is internal, for now, and the big club see's the likes of Rasumussen and Smith on the roster. In this scenario, I also keep Timashov to see what he can provide in a full season.

On D, with Krug, you get a rough set up of the following:

Hronek - DDK
Nemeth - Krug (Seider here?)
Cholowski - Seider

Biega/Bowey/Lindstrom are your odd men out on D.

Anyone who understands how the cap works is not clamoring for Krug. Throw up in my mouth.

Markstrom will get more to stay in Vancouver. I mean krug is good but he'll be -22 on the blueline despite the 45 pts he'll put up. I dont wanna pay him 8 million but yeah 5 years beats 7. If he wants to play here so bad I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Wings have a ton of cap space. Doesn't matter.

I changed Markstrom up to meet what you mention...I really doubt he arrives in Detroit (stay put if he's smart), at $4.5mil was low - I agree.

I think he would come to Detroit for less than $8mil but this is what I've been seeing people hoot and hollar for. I think term will be huge here, so we'll see.

Until it finally happens, and Nielsen is bought out, I assume nothing for where he's playing next season. Out of the organization would be the ultimate prize for us all.

"With the clamoring to sign Krug in Detroit, I did just that. Now, the cap hit he's at ($8mil) is the high side of what people expect he'll bring in,"

I mean, if you read the description to this I mentioned that $8mil was high as some people were claiming that would be what it takes. However, the Wings have the space, with him signed, to have him there over multiple years with other contracts coming off during in order to maintain continuity of skill in their system/roster.

$7M is too high - he is not that good and now you have an expensive, small Dman that you're going to have to deal with 5-6 more years. Avoid at all costs.

I'm doing a MAX 5 years with Krug, if that...4 is preferred due to the curve and whether he's staying healthy...to me, in an ideal world, you see him signing at $6mil or less but they won't approach it that way knowing what Detroit has available now and over the coming years. If all is "back to normal" after the next 2 years of flat cap, his cap hit isn't something that's going to hurt you if it's at $5,6,7mil because one would safely assume we'd see a several million dollar jump 3 years from now with the likelihood of a new TV deal to boot.

Ya that assumption is how you get hurt. No player should be getting that type of money unless you cannot live without them. I hope Krug never sniffs a Red Wings jersey, because it will be the new Ericsson contract.
