Flames refuse

Probably not, some more negotiating is needed, but refuse I doubt that - Flames have been pining for an Andersen type goalie since Kipper went home

Why would we give up Bennett and a 1st when we could just sign a better goalie than Andersen in free agency

Cause that never works out, but go ahead sign this "better" goalie to a 6-7 x 7/8 year contract

Better options in free agency.

Flames arent trading a first plus adding 6 million in cap.

Very easy pass by the flames.

Both Markstrom and Lehner are younger and better, and Andersen will need that big extension at the end of this year so he’d end up being signed 2 or 3 years longer by the end of it. I’d rather not have those last 2 or 3 years

Not really Lehner maybe but you'll have competition that's better situated to win and then there's the plethora of middle of the pack teams like the flames also competing for Lehner but again go ahead sign away because historically that has always worked out so very well, also the 1st wouldn't be needed (that's the more negotiating part)

Markstrom is the same age (had 1 good season), Lehner is a year younger

we wouldnt accept kerfoot for bennet & do u really think 1 year of anderson is worth a 1st & 2nd?

That’s still younger, and they get their long contract now, meaning they’ll be 36-37ish by the end of a 7 year deal. Andersen will be nearly 39 by the end of his 7 year deal

Look your flying high on Bennet for the moment due to his playoff performance (he's been on the block for awhile now) Kerfoot has been much more consistent than Bennet and Andersen is legit starter that has and will steal points every year a mid 2nd isn't really all that valuable and it's only a waste of flames don't extend him - trading for Andersen gives the flames a look at him for a season or your right they could keep the second and Bennet and sign an expensive long term contract with Holtby or Lehner without knowing if he's the guy

You can say the exact same thing about signing Freddy after this year. You cant have that arguement one way and not the other.

Where Calgary is right now I take the draft capital and cap space all day long.

Does Johnsson have more value to Flames fans than Kerfoot? Andersen and Johnsson for Bennett and two 2nds?

You have less competition when you hold the players rights, can negotiate during the season as well

Value wise Andersen and Bennet are 1 4 1 which is pointless for TO and you won't get 2 2nds on the open market for either Johnsson or Kerfoot

Doesn't change the fact that a soon to be fa is going to want a long term expensive contract that could become a cap boat anchor. Plus you dont have the assets you sent for him.

UFA goalie at 7 million plus 1st and 2nd round picks vs Freddy extended at 6 million. No brainer as to which way to go.

ANA retains Comtois is off the table. Jones will most likely be the player in that trade anyways.

Not sure why every Leaf fan tosses Dermott aside in order to sign Gudas - seems pretty short-sighted to me.

Biggest knock on Dermott is he hasn't grabbed a Top 4 spot (which is pretty hard to do up to this point if everyone is healthy). He's been dominate in 3rd pair minutes.

But, let's toss him away and sign a 30 yo to twice as much $$ to play 3rd pair minutes!!

Not commenting on the trades, but it makes much more sense in your scenario to keep Dermott to play 3rd pair with Sandin.

Wrong. Go trade Marner for Chychrun instead.

I'm fine with keeping him. Just going off the rumor regarding Gudas signing in Toronto and had nowhere to put after I finished making the other deals

Yeah, I can see him moving in a deal to get a decent younger Top 4 dman, just certain scenarios make more sense to keep him rather then sign older more expensive options to play 3rd pair.
