What would he sign for then? I checked a bunch of Isles ACGM and he always signed for 7M so I figured that this MIGHT work.

Why NYI wouldn't match this??? if you can clean all your garbage... I think they can!
Sign BArzy @ 9M
Clean Bailey to Edm for Pulj.
Clean Leddy in Mtl for Kulak or Mete or Weal.
and they are OK

They can't afford it right now without making a trade so it would cause some grief. I think its a move worth exploring for Calgary

Yes ik they would likely match but they would only have a week to make those trades and have room. It is an unlikely move that would probably be matched but something worth exploring

This way it'll cause NYI problems with having too to trade to make space for Barzal. It's unlikely but definitely worth a try like what MTL did last summer. No harm done if it fails but if it works then you get a superstar

Any offer that results in NYI getting less than 4 1st round picks will be matched

The Kings aren't going to take on Lucic's contract. They have the space to absorb him for a season or two, but starting in 2022, the kids will need extensions. If he had one less season on his contract, then the Kings would probably jump at the chance to take him on as a cap dump.

The problem with this is while you add a superstar you probably have to over pay because isles can't afford for him to leave. Barzy would have to get a McDavid type money contract for them to let him go. Then you miss out on 4 NHLers with those first rounders. Puts the franchise in a money crunch as well as a tough spot for the future

The Wild would probably say yes, but I wouldn’t. I don’t like players who are weak on the puck and dont fight to get it back!

The Islanders have a week to match but all offseason to become cap compliant. They also can be over the cap by 10% in the offseason. With the 10% allowed overture, a 81.5M Cap increases to 89.65M. The Islanders sit at 79.4 before contracts end. The once the year offically ends they loose Griess (3.33M), Greene (5M), Pulock (2M), Toews (.7M), Kuhnhackl(.85M), Barzal (.864M), Brassard (1.2M), and Martin (2.5M). So alot would depend on when you look at signing Barzal. If you look at the offseaon with no one re-signed the Islanders sit at 73.4M out of a possible 89.65. Thats 16.25M they can spend in the offseason before they HAVE to move someone. Clearing Cap for the start of the season is a different story.

Oh okay. For some reason I thought that the hard cap was in place all offseason
